He's just using an excuse to find sex entertainment.

If he really meant to help in improving the economy, he could have donate all his travel expenses to the charities in Thailand.
He doesn't have to squander his money on the ladies, that will only keep Thailand's sex industry to boom further. Worst case is when Thailand's ladies know that sex industry is improving, more of them will not want to study or work as a normal clerk or worker, they wld rather become sex slaves and keep rotting.

Tell him that he's only finding excuses to find sex in Thailand and ask him to buy insurance or save a sum of money for his future, just in case he gets AIDS which is spreading prominently in Thailand currently. China, Thailand & Indonesia are the few countries with high AIDS. Beware!

Thailand Sex Holiday

In Thailand sex with anyone over the age of 16 or perhaps 18 is perfectly legal, so he can have all the sex he wants with people over these ages, and no one can stop him.

But I agree he will be a fool to think that he can have it without consequences either financially, healthy-wise or judging from some of the comments on this thread without some form of moral indignation.

Most single people who travel either domestically or internationally on business or leisure have a sexual encounter or two at some time during their stay.

God if I did it in Spain in 1968 when I was young who is not going to do it now.

Anyway how do you prove in a court or law that someone who has sex in a country other than his or her own is a sex tourist?

I believe there is only one country in the world where sex is illegal and that is the Vatican State - and who in their right mind wants to live there.

Just make sure they ladies are all 18 (HUGE problem here), and he uses a condom every time. I live in one of the sex industry hot spots, and know some ladies. Most seem that they are doing this by choice and have a better life (financially speaking) than the average Thai. But he is not helping the economy by getting laid, these ladies don't report their earnings. If he eats at nice restaurants and sees some of local (and beautiful) sights, then he's not hurting the economy, either. Thailand is a wonderful place, so ask him to be respectful. And if he's going to Patong and sees 2 farang girls sitting around Bangla road having a few beers, that may be me :) unfortunately, laughing at him for paying for sex.
Bracing now, for the thumbs down. But it's the truth that I see in action every day.

He's helping himself. Would he say this if he went to prostitutes at home? Doubt it. Some guys treat the women well, but how would he feel if he discovered the woman he'd been paying was HIV positive? Bet he wouldn't feel so charitable then. If he wants to help the women he could give money to an NGO but no, he wants something tangible for his money. Tell him if he wants to help the women there are plenty of things he can do and they don't involve screwing them. Luckily, the Thai girls are not stupid. He could well be the one getting screwed.

ARKU - been to Thailand many times, never screwed a hooker, physically or financially. Know lots of men who've been there and some have some haven't but to assume all would just shows you're in the gutter boy.

No. You can see a lot of sex tourists when you go to that part of the world and I'd like to see every one of them shot! If you take the time to talk with the women that work in this industry you'll hear some truly awful stories. Sex tourism and 'mail order brides' in Thailand have become popular topics in the U.K. to make fun of, but the reality is not at all funny. I spoke to a man who had just returned from Thailand, whilst he was there he met another tourist who said he knew a good place to party. They went together to a warehouse and inside the warehouse were rows of girls with paper tags attached to their wrists. you simply tore off the tag and took it to a till at the front and then......nasty!
He may think it's a joke now but he needs to think about how he's going to feel about himself when he gets back home having behaved like a pervert and upheld such a horrible industry.
In reply to your question tell him to grow up and start to realise that it's not a Little Britain sketch, thousands of women are living in hell as a direct result of fools like him.
and in reply to the person above, I have spent a long time in the far east and have been offered sex many times. I have NEVER accepted, not once, it's not a free sex utopia, there's always strings attached!!

What what Ive researched there is free and pushed prostituion.

The pushed ie pimped is more in the thai side of things, often hidden away in barber shops etc.

The gogo bar girls for the most part are free agents taking advantage of western walking atms.

And earn a good wage and the girls look after each other.

So providing he stickes with this side of things his argument may be sound... and does not go near anything more 'dodgy' ie underage kids, anything which looks forced etc.

And treats the girls right like any one night stand.

Often the girls will recognise the guys after and say hi and be friendly. Maybe if the guys are nieve con them with stories such as family buffaoo is sick and stuff... ie both sides playing the other.

Ie girls exploit lonely guys for cash, guys make the most of avaialble girls looking for cash

Perhaps.

The fact is that so called "western" sex tourism does help a lot of the poorer parts of the country ie Issan where most of the girls come from. These girls are not co-erced or forced into the business but probably know it from friends or relatives who have done it or are doing it in the past. Indeed in many villages you can spot the familes with girls who used to work / are in the industry as they will be the ones with new houses, cars etc

This is totally different from the endentured brothel industry that serves the local Thai and Chinese market.

But, whatever, the rights or wrongs, he shouldnt be bragging about it to anyone.

Please advise your brother that sex holiday is illegal in Thailand and if caught, a jail term is mandatory. Just because some foreigners had managed to evade the law, do not imply that it is openly acceptable. It is just that the Thai tend to be tolerant of foreigners because they understand that most foreigners do not understand their culture.

Anyway, latest statistic for HIV-infected people in Thailand stands at about 600,000. So id you r brother going to be the next?

Tell him to find a proper girlfriend and he can go to Thailand for a holiday with her. I think this will be a better option.

And by the way, his argument is bullshit. He is helping himself. He can help the women without getting them for sex.

thailand is great for getting cheap sex. you can get 1-2 hours of steamy sex there for $14. a whole raunchy night of sex with a hot smokin thai chick will set you back just $28.

oh and he is definitely helping the economy. thailand wouldn't be nearly as developed if it wasn't for sex tourists. it'd probably be poorer like the philippines. and the women are spoiled brats with all the money they get. never send them money by the month.
