My dad is only 49 but he started to have some prostate problems last month. He has an infection and he has to take antibiotics. My 13 year old brother thinks it will be funny to put some sudafed into my dad's coffee to see what happened. Because on the bottle it says you are not supposed to take sudafed if you have prostate problems.
Why would someone try to poison their dad?
My dad is the sweetest, brightest, most darling father in the world. But sometimes my brother acts so retarded and has no common sense. So really, I don't trust him!
How can I keep him from doing stupid things like this without telling my parents?

Sorry - but you have to tell your parents. You can point out the information on the Sudafed label that says don't take this - but if that doesn't jar his head - then tell your parents.

It is unlikely - unless your brother was putting a lot of it in his drinks that it would have an affect - but you should find out how much he is doing - and call poison control.

You love your dad? You don't want to see him suffer and die? The you must tell him what your brother is doing. Your dad loves yo AND your brother and since he is an adult, will understand some of the stupid things kids do. I don't think your dad will punish your brother - most likely he will have a talk with him and explain how dangerous this kind of prank can be. Meanwhile, your dad has been fore-warned if you tell him and will be careful to see to it that he makes and fetches his own drinks or food, etc.

Really, WHY don't you protect your dad from harm? If something happens to him, what will you do? can your brother take care of you and your mom? Pay the bills? C'mon now. Do the RIGHT thing... tell your parents.

You need to sit down and talk to him and tell him to get some commen sense. He needs some sort of counseling...if he did that and your father died there would be an investigation and they would find out how he died. Trust me with all the new technology they'd catch him fast and he would go to jail for premeditated murder. A life long or death sentence, he may be thirteen but he is having problems if he is thinking about harming the people around him. Take him to see a psychiatrist, it will do him some good now an din the future.

Sorry Jennifer, but I don't see a safe way out of this that doesn't include telling your parents. The fact that your brother is even thinking about doing this says he has some serious problems. If you or your parents confront him he'll say he was just kidding. But frankly, even thinking about doing something like that, even kidding around, is disturbing. You need to emphasize that fact to your parents because it's very possible that they'll think he was kidding. But even if they do, I can almost guarantee that your Dad is going to be careful after that because there will be just a little shadow of a doubt in him about your brother's intentions.

Honestly, I don't think he's trying to "poison" your dad. It's just that he has an unconventional and screwed sense of fun. However, if your intuition tells you that something is wrong or that your brother is going to do something drastic, you ought to speak with your parents. Not doing so, could lead to some very serious consequences. If you think he's just fooling around, speak to your brother and tell him of the disastrous results of such poor pranks. Also, try seeking help from a counsellor at school.

Your brother sounds like he was joking around. Kind of a sick joke but a joke none the less. You might want to keep an eye on him and the household drugs you have around, but even then the chances of sudafed really doing harm from one use... it's not going to do any serious damage.

You can't. If you care as much as you say you do about your dad then you need to tell him what your brother said. Your brother's behavior about this needs to be addressed by your dad before something bad does happen. And you knowing you could have stopped it by saying something will make you feel worse in the long run if you don't.

You need to disregard the potential problems that your brother is creating for himself and tell your dad !!! Ask yourself what is more important ..... your dads health or your brother getting the consequences he deserves. He needs for someone to set him straight if he thinks messing with any kind of drugs is funny and whats worse thinking that it's ok to hurt someone. It would be better for all concerned if you spoke up. Be strong and do what's right before it's too late ! : )

You need to tell your parents. It may seem like you are turning your brother in but what's worse, having a mad brother or a seriously sick/dead father? If you don't want to tell your dad, tell your mom. Tell her you think your brother is just joked but you're worried that it may cause an accident. Don't treat it like you are telling on him, tell your mom like you are concerned. It'll go over better and you'll feel better about it later. Good luck!!
