When you get married . People enter their names in a register .
In a computer the register is the actual part that has the specific order that everything needs to function correctly .
If you take a bunch of people in a large room then tell em all to run out of a small door BAM it Jams. If you make a registry and assign them a # . They can leave as fast as they can but in the order of the numbers. Mess with the registry . By throwing in an extra dumbass human without an assigned number . This person tries to leave and confuses everyone. Microsoft have had plenty of fun screwing that up all on their own it doesnt need your help.
IF the temptation becomes too much for you i suggest being prepared to re-install your operating system shortly after blue screens or blank screens appear

If you have to ask this question, it's best you just leave the registry & Registry Editor alone. The registry registers just about all the critical program information your computer needs to keep track of everything. Altering the entries could keep some programs from running or your computer from booting at all.
Consider the Registry Editor as brain surgery tools for the computer experts.

In computing, the Windows registry is a database which stores settings and options for the operating system for Microsoft Windows 32-bit versions, 64-bit versions and Windows Mobile. It contains information and settings for all the hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, users, and preferences of the PC and so on. Whenever a user makes changes to "Control Panel" settings, or file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in the registry.
Windows XP Registry EditorThe Windows Registry was introduced to tidy up the profusion of per-program INI files that had previously been used to store configuration settings for Windows programs. These files tended to be scattered all over the system, which made them difficult to track.

The registry is a place in windows where windows itself and application can store settings (keys). The registry editor (regedit) can view and modify the keys that are stored in the registry.
As a general rule one should not mess around in the registry unless they know what they are doing since you can cause programs to crash or destabilize a windows installation with a misconfiguration.

If you have to ask that question, DO NOT TOUCH it. The registry is how Windows organizes access and settings for everything on your computer. Fooling around with it when you don't know how it operates can potentially render your computer completely UNUSABLE. Just google the term "Windows Registry" and read up on it.

The registry is a log file of everything in your computer, everything you've done and everything you cannot mess with if you have no experience. I would download a registry cleaner tool like Registry Organizer or Registry Mechanic and trust one of those programs before using the RegEdit.exe program to make random (it seems) changes.

The registry is the internal database that Window's uses for running applications and system functions. If you do not know what you are doing you can REALLY mess up your computer, so I wouldn't mess with it until you do a lot of research on what items are important and what is extraneous.
