I got my associates in architecture and hear there is a ton of construction projects in Las Vegas. Im a single male and was wondering what else there is to do there other than gamble, drink, etc... Is this a good spot for me to start my career and possbily take classes on the side?

also, im getting my private pilots license soon and was wondering if that would be a nice place to fly around.

I went to school in Vegas for two years. It's grown so much since I was there. It was always warm. Crime rate is very high.
Reno may be a bit nicer. It is smaller. If you are going to be an architect (My dream!) I would say Reno. It is growing also. I live in Tahoe and it's close to Reno. You could live in Tahoe and work in Reno. That way you have great summers in the Mountains, with the added range of clientele from Tahoe to Carson City to Reno and Truckee!
My father was a pilot. Tahoe has a nice airport and it's not busy at all, can't beat the view of the lake as your coming in on approach! It's awesome!

I live in Vegas and visit family in Seattle. The weather at both cities is very different so depending on which you like better you should choose. Vegas is in the middle of the Mohave Desert. The summer heat is over 100 for over three months. The spring and fall are fantastic. Winter can be cold if the north winds blow but we seldom have even flakes. You are 6 hours from CA and beaches, a couple hours from UT and skiing, and a plane ride anywhere. The town is 24/7 but people who live here learn not to gamble except like taking the same amount of money as a movie and knowing the chances of losing are high. NV needs teachers desperately. Jobs are casnos are tight right now but housekeeping would be a good choice. Getting a job right off is very iffy. You will need a car because the bus system is awful. The cost of living is comparable to Seattle. Seattle is humid. A/c is not a normal things for those several hot days in the summer. Snow falls depending exactly where you live. Restaurant prices compared to Vegas are higher but the food, etc., about the same, depending on exactly where you rent. That is all I know

Yes, it's a good place for you and your goals. UNLV is a well-respected college, and there is also the community college. Many people who live there stay away from The Strip and from Downtown Las Vegas. They live normal lives-- work, marry, have children, etc. Nellis Air Force Base is in Las Vegas, and the once-small airport is now huge. I don't think you'd have a problem flying around there--and beyond to less populated areas.

Good luck to you--they are always building something new there--as so many people move there every single month--I doubt you'd have any problem finding work.

sure if you like flying, there are lots of places to fly, architects im not sure about but there is a lot of building, tons of houses and some casino work. there are parks, the huge lake and dam, tons of casinos which means lots of shows in the area to see all the time, there is unlv for extra classes, there is a normal human life here you know, they actually are short of school teachers. the living expense is fairly high. you can always email me through here is you want to ask anything else.

There are other things to do here. You won't really notice the gambling that much. Be careful - like all big cities there is a crime rate factor which is relatively high, and you have to watch driving on the roads.
