I'm going to go with the most logical and obvious answer and simply state that while all poisoning is harmful, it is not always fatal. The exception being if you do not seek immediate medical assistance for the type of poisoning that has occurred. So, in short, yes, "You CAN" die, but there are antidotes/treatments (stomach pumped) to prevent the worst case scenario.
