This question keeps on coming back.
So does my answer.
Scientifically both plants and animals are having one basic unit
common i.e. cell.
It contents are remarkably common except few like chlorophyl,
centrosome, plastids, vacuoles etc. These cell constitute the whole body of an animal or a plant.
Now basic difference being its unability to create sound [ cry ] when broken /eaten /plucked, a plant or vegitable, can not make it eatable ethically and logically.
People eat vegitables just becoz they dont scream or cry. People
drink milk which was actually meant for the calf and not for any
other purpose. Where is their ethics ?
There may be a reason that blood of the killed animal makes them to have a guilty feeling, which is red and like ours becoz of
hoemoglobin. But then the blood of plants, incidently not red, is as important as red blood.
We love to kill kockroaches just becoz they dont have red blood.
The canines are the teeth which are not found in Herbivorous
animals. The fact that canines are present in humen beings make
it clear that humen are Omnivorous as the God meant us to be.
However for health point of view one should prefer vegitables
though there are some protiens which can only be found in meat.
P.S. Meat eating was instructed in Hindu scriptures and was prevailing in ancient times.

I eat vegetables. I think there is no problem with eating vegetables, because they do not feel pain and are not conscious things -- as far as we know. Eating meat is more difficult to justify as can we know the amount of pain they go through when they are killed hence they do suffer a lot? This is a dangerous progression, and it is not very clear where it should stop. We surely do not want to eat *humans*. Where do we draw the line? Perhaps it is better to not eat any meat.

Nature provided food for every living object on this planet. So long as one takes the food ordered by the nature it is right. For ex. lion and tiger will take meat only. They wont eat grass. Whereas elephant and cow eat only plants and grass. They never eat meat.
However in case of human beings they eat both. We start getting doubts only in this case. Food is required to keep the body alive and active. If this body can be kept alive without taking away the life of another creature, killing is not permitted. If no other food is available and one has to survive, only on such occasion eating meat is permitted that too by killing another being, only to the extent of ones own requirement.

Yes, of course. If this answer was given 50 years before it is difficult to prove it.Now it is easy. WE know that even plants have life in them. they have their own senses. Even in the drinking water we have millions of living organisms. So if we cant kill another life, then we cant live in this world. Otherwise we have to define clearly what is life?
The people ask why we cant eat all the animals. Again it is proved beyond doubt that only certain category (Herbivourous I guess i am not wrong) are fit for eating by Man.

So what, animals are the only things alive. Aren't you killing when you blow your nose into a tissue and kill all those bacteria and virii? Your lettuce was alive just a few days ago, wasn't it? Life exists in a balance with each part of the cycle having its function and end. We are omnivores, we need to eat vegetables, fruits, grains, AND MEAT. That's why we have the nice sharp pointy teeth in the front of our mouths.

"Thou shall not kill" applies to killing humans. Read the verse in context. God Himself sanctioned the killing of animals for food (though it was and is not part of His true and perfect plan that eliminates ALL death), though I do not think He enjoys that animals are sacrificed for humans to live on. He made animals lower than humans (they have no spirit or mind, just a physical body) but they are still His creations.
Being a vegetarian is okay, too, according the Bible. Daniel and his 3 fellow Hebrew captives stuck to a vegetarian diet, and were in fact healthier than those who didn't.

Killing means for no reason killing some one.
In all scriptures meat eating is not forbidden.
For example Jesus(pbuh) himself eat meat , Krishna in Hindu scripture eat meat, etc. etc…
If you see tooth of vegetarian animals they don't have k9 tooth, so they can not eat meat, If you see meat eating animals like lion, tiger, dog, they only have k9 type tooth.
But if you analyze human tooth, you will find both type of teeth, that indicates the purpose of those tooth.
Killing any life just for fun and game is sin but for life cycle is natural.
When we catch infection we take antibiotic to kill bacteria???????????? All do the same meat eater, or Vegetarians!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And what about Vegetables as well, are they not have life and does not grow???????

See directly or indirectly we are all eating meat, isn't it! If you think about pure vegetarian dishes, there also we are killing indirectly by sucking cow milk (which is meant for her seedlings), we are uprooting vegetables for which animals are suffering and dieing, so to survive we have to consume something. even the medicines need animal fats etc. so can we stop medicine too? Jesus said not to kill which does not mean foods I believe.

Man is made of flesh. And I would think we need some of the protiens in meat to sustain oursleves. At least in fish. I don't believe in extremes my freind. Does God
condemn the animals when they eat each other to sustain themselves? Then why would we condemn a man?
