In a world full of war and murder could this actually mean anything? Or that it makes an ounce of sense to say that someone can die "for" the sins of other people, although this death is followed by a hundred generations of people who continue to endure injustice and suffering and continue committing sins, and turning other people into innocent victims of it, as if this alleged "sacrifice" had never happened. This man died for you? So what? Has it ever protected you from accident or disease or crime? What measurable or detectable difference does it make?
Are we so feeble-minded that we can not encourage people to base their lives on values and principles, without the hope and fear of some alleged reward or punishment after death? Could we not teach morality far more effectively to future generations by basing it on compassion, sympathy and ethical debate, rather than on "revelation" with which no argument is possible?

Christ died for us to forgive our sins, you should be thankful! Without Him dying for us it would be a little like the movie, Apocolypto! Although, He did not really want to die on the cross, he still did. We did not even deserve it! He also died for us so we could go to heaven instead of go to a not so happy place called hell.

I am going to answer your question in a way that you may have never heard before. It should refocus your thinking, not that you would agree with it, but that you do not need to ask the question again.

God has a standard: Perfection. He will not want:
1) Those who do not accept his covering for not being perfect.
2) Those who are constantly not trusting him.
3) Those that do not believe in him.

Perfection is granted to us for trusting him through his Son, Jesus who is the Christ. Without that covering, we are what Jesus called, "Still in our sins."

Accepting that does not make us sinless, but God sees us as sinless for the sake of his Son. That's what he promised. He always keeps his promises.

So wars and death are not only going on, but more are promised as the times that we now live in are drawing to an end.

And now to one of your questions:

"Are we so feeble-minded that we can not encourage people to base their lives on values and principles, without the hope and fear of some alleged reward or punishment after death? Could we not teach morality far more effectively to future generations by basing it on compassion, sympathy and ethical debate, rather than on "revelation" with which no argument is possible?"

It's not about morals, values, principles, teaching therein, or otherwise educating people per se. It's about trusting God for what he said. Period. He promised that we will change as we continue in our lives trusting him.

Remember this, everything that you are talking about, and everything that I have been talking about has been preached in the world for generations. We all have the choice of following after this, and turning our backs to that, but we will live by our decision, whatever it might be. We each have our choice, or choices. If the one that you are currently carrying with you leads you into a wall, perhaps you might seel another. The one I made leads me to God and eternal life. Where does yours lead you?

Absolutely it means something.

In a war full of bad things, naturally a lot of people will need redemption right? To be brought "back to the light side" if you may grant me the expression. If everyone was perfect and there was absolutely no sin, THEN Christ would be virtually useless, but Christ is important specifically because of the depravity of man.

Now if Christ died to save mankind from sin, if you may grant me at least that point, then why hasn't the world ended yet? Think about this, if the world ended say ten years after Christ, how few people would be in heaven? Maybe ten thousand or so, but likely not even a hundred thousand. Now think about how two thousand years have passed - how many souls must be joined in heaven? So God has been patient to let us continue this fragile life on earth, up to now, because he is giving us as much time as possible so that we can repent from our wicked ways and find consolation and redemption. Instead of bestowing judging upon the earth right after Jesus, he has chose to wait to give so many multitudes the time to repent. But even his patience is not forever, because he needs to come through on his promises.

Christ never died to "abolish sin", that is, to destroy everyone's sinful nature, period, but he died to atone for our sins if we would accept Him. We are never promised a life totally free from sickness, crime, or loss. So long as we live this temporal life we will undergo bad things, but our refuge and paradise is in heaven, that we look forward to. However we can always pray for God's providence, his aid, in keeping us from certain calamities, as God has performed healing miracles in my life of a disease that had no medical cure whatsoever; it just utterly vanished as if it was never there. But again, even these Providential acts of God we cannot demand of him, we can only hope he has it in his plan.

You cannot debate against Revelation. You cannot tell someone that they did not see what they saw, or did not hear what they heard. The only thing you can do is say they are insane, but that is not the kind of "compassion, sympathy and ethical debate" you were talking about, was it? Calling someone insane?

Wait a minute. I think you are somewhat missing the point of what Jesus did on the cross. He did not die on the cross to save us from having troubles in this life. He died on the cross to save us from having to pay the penalty for our sins......which is spiritual death. Eternal separation from God. Those who believe in Jesus Christ will only die once. Then they will be granted entrance to the kingdom of heaven, because His death on the cross washed us clean of our sins. Those who deny Jesus as Lord will die not only once, but also the second death; eternal separation from God.

And to answer your question, the Lord has protected me from much evil on this earth. The joyful life He has given me is not only for heaven, it is here and now.

I believe that God has assigned His angels to protect us from a myriad of evils. However sometimes we don't follow the rules and get into trouble anyway.
As far as Jesus' sacrifice, take heart, because you have all eternity to enjoy the benefits.

Life, Illness and Death are all part of life, sadly enough.

Christ died so we wouldn't have to go to hell, we would have a choice between heaven (eternal life) or hell (suffering for eternity).

Going to hell shouldn't have to "scare" you, you should want to do good and live your life with good morals and values, which Jesus taught. But bad actions/bad people do need punishment, which is hell.

In the lives of those who reject Christ's atoning blood, redeeming sacrifice for sins, they continue to be wicked.
No one can be good or moral or virtuous without the blood of Jesus to cover their sins.
So this means everything. His blood is powerful enough, his one time sacrifice eternal enough that ever since that day on the cross of Calvary, anyone who comes and plunges completely beneath the flow, loses ALL their guilty stains. You have to plunge into that fountain filled with blood flowing from Emmanuel's vains and not just know it's there. You have to allow His blood to flow in your body to become joint heirs with Him in heaven.
Being a living sacrifice and taking up your cross to follow Him and being part of the godly in Christ Jesus who shall suffer persecution and who count it all joy and think it not strange that these fiery trials come our way, means we have decided that no matter what, we will serve our commander and endure 'til the end and love not our own lives unto the death. Do we see side benefits in this life? Of course. God will heal a Christian every time but one and that's when they are healed in heaven. Yes God has healed many from diseases and protected miraculously many a Christian even 'til modern times. God changes hearts and lives and relationships and provides the necessities of life. He also allows suffering to perfect us. Jesus suffered too and knows exactly what we feel. My late uncle's father-in-law testified to being fed while in prison for refusing to curse while running toward a dummy with a bayonet in the armed services. He chewed and swallowed and felt full. Corrie Ten Boom had a testament that was hid from the searchers many times although it was in plain sight. God has touched my back to where I felt no pain. (the spirit of the Lord helpeth our infirmaties) God sent His comforter to my sister-in-law while in the hospital praying for my dying brother. The Holy Ghost has given her strength to go on and raise their adopted son and joy in the midst of sorrow.
Yes, mankind's heart is on evil continually. There are no values or principles that God Himself did not establish. He created boundaries and justice and equity because He is holy and just. There is no goodness in man without the goodness of God. No you could not teach what you did not know from experience and reality. Every civilization who removed God from their knowledge perished. Without God in their knowledge, they sink lower into depravity and lawlessness calling evil good and good evil. There is no moral compass without God, the designer of the living soul which is eternal. Mankind cannot measure himself by comparing to his neighbor as to what morality is and he sears his conscience with a hot iron. Debate for debate's sake is forbidden Christians. Defending the faith is not. We have to use wisdom in these instances. A mere debate doesn't prove God's truth or disprove it and never will. That being said, Jesus and Paul were some of the most brilliant minds of their day and held their ground with the most learned men. They tried to entrap Jesus in His words but got to the place they finally gave up! "34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question." Mark 12
The common people heard Him gladly though. Seems like the smarter people get the more they miss the simple truths. God has used the simple things of this world to confound the wise. They are like dogs chasing their tales in circles! Pitiful! Jesus Christ has more compassion, sympathy and ethics than any argument you might come up with that proclaims you are your own god and good in your own right and can make up your own rules. It's not worth arguing!
