How should government react to it's cop killers?

They should give them the death penalty or try them with treason.
In my opinion when you are citizen of a certain country and you kill a soldier of your country, an officer of a law, an elected government employee, and burn the American flag then you should be tried for treason.

Cop killers should be severely punished. Unfortunately, none of your previous answers talks about the facts. People should make up their minds about the death penalty when they have the facts. Here are a few of them (sourced and verifiable)

Re: cost
The death penalty costs far more than life in prison. The extra costs begin even before the trial.

Re: Possibility of executing an innocent person
Over 120 people on death rows have been released with evidence of their innocence. If we speed up the process we are bound to execute an innocent person.

DNA evidence is available in no more than 10% of all murder cases. It is no guarantee that we will never execute an innocent person. It is human nature to make mistakes.

The death penalty is not a deterrent. Murder rates are higher in states with the death penalty than in states without it. Moreover, people who kill or commit other serious crimes do not think they will be caught (if they think at all.)

More and more states have life without parole on the books. Life without parole means what it says and is no picnic to be locked up in a tiny cell, 23 hours a day, forever.

The death penalty is not reserved for the “worst of the worst,” but rather for defendants with the worst lawyers. When is the last time a wealthy person was sentenced to death, let alone executed??

People should know that the death penalty is very hard on victims’ families. They must relive their ordeal in the courts and the media. Life without parole is sure, swift and rarely appealed. Some victims families who support the death penalty in principal prefer life without parole because of how the death penalty affects families like theirs.

Last of all, opposing the death penalty does not mean a person condones brutal crimes or excuses cop killers. In looking for effective ways of keeping us safe and our police safe and alive, people should make up their minds using common sense not revenge.

Cop killers cannot be treated like any other felon.If a person is crazy enough to go against a trained officer with a gun, then he is especially dangerous to unarmed citizens. Cop killers need to be hunted down and stopped with whatever means necessary.

By not creating laws that create crimes and law enforcement or "peace" officers that do not get drunk with police powers. The Sheriff and Police shoot and kill people with stuff like a 4 inch blade especially since they are trained hand to hand combat. The good cops still outnumber the bad ones.

The cop killer should be treated as any regular murder because noone's life is more important just because of what they are. A human being's life is precious no matter what they do for a living.

Cop Killers! Once you've done that you are screwed. People will turn you in, even relatives and every policeman is looking for you. I think cop killers do pay a very high price once caught and in the penal system. That should not change. If they will sink to that they will sink to anything, so I don't want them near me. There is prison for them, but even then they are low hiearchy on the prisoner class system.

They should be turned loose in a stadium filled with 40,000 off-duty police officers. Lock the exits and let the fun begin. Cop killers are the scum of the scum of the scum. They make child molesters look good by comparison.

baby Killer - the two are undesirable yet a minimum of the cop is able to attempt to guard himself. the youngster is helpless. death is basically too good for anybody that kills a baby. everlasting torture may well be my stated sentence.

just like any other person....they know when they become cops that they are risking their lives, they know millions of people hate cops and are gonna try in someway to make their lives worse becuase they feel like that is justice...mostly criminals feel this way but police still know that when they become cops.
