My 2000 Toyota Camry just recently started idling at 2000 rpm when in park, but when its in drive it idles fine. I was told that I can adjust the idling by adjusting the Idle set screw, which I did. However when I went to screw the nut back on the screw broke. Where can I find a replacement and how can I remove the rest of the screw thats left?

Can I find a replacement screw at Auto Zone, O Reilly's???'

go to a salvage yard, you will need to get a throttle body.i doubt you will be able to get just the screw from the dealer.it will come attached to the throttle body.you may ask the technicians in the shop if they have a throttle body the will sell you.they often do,due to engine swaps.your problem is in the throttle body.a stuck idle air control, sticking throttle valve, binding cable,or a broke or disconnected vacuum line.you should not adjust the idle with the set screw.it is computer controled.

if you can find a good throttle body, just replace it and be done.it will be easier to get the screw out if the tb is off the vehicle.get a new gasket for it.being it broke when the nut was put back on you may be able to get it out with a small pick and a lot of patience.just turn it back out,a little at a time.

OK first you should never have to adjust idle speed , there is a problem dirty throttle body or idle air control valve but whats done is done you will have to go to dealer or salvage yard to get a new screw and hope you wont have to buy a throttle body. or might be a vac leak.

Order one from your Toyota parts counter. To do the job properly you'll need to use a (metric) "tap extractor set" or an "eazy out set". Simply go on line to find a source. When you get your screw from Toyota they should be able to tell you the screw size ans the thread pitch. You'll need to know these two things before you buy a tap extractor or an eazy out set. Hope this helped

whoever told you that is wrong...the idle is pre-set and should NOT be tampered with.
