One piece of evidence that humans are evolving is the fact that we find healthy, fit people more attractive than the average person (think of people you don't already know who you would most like to have offspring with, say if you were marooned on an island - they are likely to have pretty good genes, right?). You might say, "AHA!, but why then are there any unattractive people at all?" The answer is the Shrek Effect - there are plenty of other unattractive people to pair up with. You might then say, "Hey, but that would lead to disruptive selection that would isolate the two extremes from sharing genes and lead to speciation!" My thought is that sexual reproduction is effective at mixing genes (recombination, etc), plus you do see a lot of people who get lucky with people out of their league.

What do you think?
I know this belongs in the biology section, but I like the group of people in R and S more. Over there it's like I'm helping everyone with their homework.

Cloe and Rae-Rae are alluding to the ability of sexual reproduction to "hide" bad genes in good-looking people and vice-versa.

I think sometimes mediocre looking people can have really good looking kids and vice versa.

I see examples of that everywhere...
You know, not extremes or anything, but for the most part, But you know, two extremely attractive people can mate and surprisingly, their kids won't be as attractive as them.

And two people that you think are average if that can have children and they are all beautiful, then you see the traits in their parents, but the traits are all jumbled up unattractively or asymmetrically.

I think the traditional things which stem mostly from how we evolved in our cave man days still apply:

for men, youth is the sexual attraction.

for women: security/strength.

Humans are intelligent enough to be able to adapt to their surroundings. So humans don't go through natural selection the same way animals do. You just said that a lot of non religious people are also pro life therefore how could you said they will cause their own extinction. Also religion isn't something that is passed on genetically. A person who has religious parents could be an atheist and also the other way around.

Not really, attractiveness doesn't always = healthy genes.

I have lots of genetic disorders and I always get hit on by guys, most guys say I look better than average... but I'm not the healthiest person in the world according to my DNA.

It just means that we are rooting out all the unfortunate looking people from the world.

Well, money, power, and intelligence can all be aphrodisiacs. Also, an attractive person may have unattractive recessive genes (or vice versa).
