About a month ago, i started to get bad headaches, and i was also craving salt. So i cooked up a batch of fries, and my headache went away about 5 minutes into eating them. I have been tested for diabetes a year or so ago. showed no signs. Any other possiblities? It doesnt run in the family, however my cousin does have it. Is this normal? or should i go to the family doctor?

Shouldnt a month be more than enough time to get back what i needed? I guess you could say uped my salt intake by two times what it was normally at.

Whenever you crave something it usually means your body is lacking it. Eating carbs and salt replenished what you needed, hence relieving your headache.

I crave salt every month before my period. I also get headaches and that's just part of the hormone fluctuations. Is that when you are craving salt and getting headaches, around PMS time?

If it's been over a year since you had a glucose test, do it again soon. You might want to see your doctor.

Intense salt craving normally indicates low thyroid function. To see if this is you, do a dollar-bill size patch of iodine on your thigh. If it absorbs and disappears in less than 24 hours you may need thyroid supplementation. If you can do this for several days and it still goes away in less than 24 hrs, I'd get checked. You may even feel better from the iodine.

If you didn't have a lot of salt prior to the last month, you could be making up for it. Your body might be trying to tell you it's thirsty by craving salty foods. Try drinking more water. Also, see a doctor.
