I have Ankylaglossia ( Tounge-tie ) i have had it since i was born. It was inherited by my Father so i have to have surgery to have it clipped. Has anyone had the surgery before what are the side effects after surgery? PLEASE HELP I"M SCARED

The procedure is called a frenectomy,and if you're having the skin under your tongue snipped it's called a lingual frenectomy. It's nothing to be scared about.
I used to work for an orthodontist and we had several patients that had the procedure. There shouldn't be too much pain, but the best thing you can do for that is to rinse your mouth with warm salt water. Be careful when you brush and floss, and I'd suggest avoiding spicy foods for a little while. Luckily, the mouth heals quickly. You should be healed completely in 2 or 3 weeks.

Don't worry, you will be okay. This procedure sounds really scary, but in all reality it will be quick and easy. You will have mild to moderate amount of tenderness for a day or two. Nothing an Ibuprofen or Tylenol wouldn't take care of. There are a couple of ways dentists do this type of procedure, 1. she/he will use an electorsurge which will cauterize and seperate the tissue or 2. they will use a laser to cauterize seperate the tissue. After the procedure you will want to avoid foods that are irritating to the tissue ie chips, captain crunch. Just take it easy and baby the area for a day or two and you will be ok. Good Luck!

Don't be scared. It is a fairly simple procedure. They will apply local anesthesia to the floor of your mouth and will snip the frenum which is holding your tongue down. It should take less than 15 minutes. Believe me since I did that a lot in Dental school. Hope that helps

Well, when i had my son (21yrs ago) they took him in for his circumsition, and as he was crying they noticed he was tongue tied so, they snipped that also. I don't think it's that big of a deal and for side affects, i don't recall anything but keep ur mouth closed for the first few days that way ur tongue won't fall out before it's healed:O ...i'm joking ....lol
I am suprised tho, that they didnt do this at birth. Anyway, u will be just fine, i think it's more of the word, surgeory that is freaking u out but, this is a very minor procedure. Don't be scared ;) Best wishes

How old are you? Does the ankyloglossia interfere with eating or speaking? If it isn't interfering with anything, it doesn't need to be done. Even if it is done, it will heal completely in under 10 days. It will be a bit sore, but Tylenol is adequate for that.
