It's been over 20 years, I did the crime and did my crime on a first offense drug charge, less than 1/2 a gram of cocaine. I paid my fine, I did my probation, and upon my release I got into a Twelve step program and that became my life N/A and AA. I was young and dumb back then, it was for recreational use only and I was set up by my best friend, whose best buddy was an under cover Narc.
I was able to get a job that I held for 20 yrs. and bought a home and a car living a normal life. I dont blame anyone but myself, I have grown up alot. I would just like an opportunity to work with the military, Police, Sherriff, CIA, FBI, Law Firm, Forencics, under cover survielance ect..

First you say that in your state self defense is not a defense. I doubt that. However, you were arrested but not charged and not convicted. If you fill out an application and it asks, were you ever charged with a felony, you need to tell them that you were charged with an assault but you were defending yourself as you were attacked and the case was dismissed and you were not convicted as you were innocent. if it asks if you were ever convicted of a felony, the answer is "No". It is too bad you didn't have a union as there they might have put you on leave to investigate but when you were set free, you wouldhave had your job. If the fight or whatever was at work, many employers do treat both the victim and the instigator equally if a fight takes place. And may treat violence harshly. it is too bad. Any chance of going back to talk to them at work to see if you can get your old job back? Do file with unemployment and if denied, appeal it. They fired you without just cause. They may claim it was cause, but you need to state that you were attacked and you defended yourself. Good luck on that. You don't know what a company will do, but you need to clarify that it was a self defense and you were attacked if they do ask about it or if they ask if you were ever arresed. Actually should not have been arrested unless charged with it. However, just not convicted if it was dropped. You don't know what that company will say so you may want to go back and talk to them and let them know the charges were dropped as you were merely defending yoruself. If your attacker was family of the company heads, then not likely and it could be more difficult. If they ell ayone you assaulted someone, then you may be able to sue them for defamation as I would think you did not assault but were defending yourself if the other was the aggressor. Good luck.

I doubt it. Felony convictionswill disqualify you for any law enforcement job, unless you get a pardon, or an expungement due to the fact that you were wrongly convicted in the first place. I know of no other exceptions.

Sorry I am a CJ major. The government jobs are out. No way around it. My wife lost her shot at a DEA job for cussing out her old boss. A felony is too much for them to overloook. Sorry.

no-becuase in our society once youve commited a crime -no matter what- you become an outcast who can never be trusted, and it doesnt matter that youve completely changed and turned your life around-they still condemn you to a life with a tag of ex-felon
SHAME ISNT IT!!!!!!!

No. While it may not seem fair, it was one of the risks you accepted when you chose to use the drugs, whether you knew it or not.
