I am planning on joining the Coast Guard. I wanted to become a rescue swimmer but I have no clue about the training,or requirements. Can anyone tell me who was/is in the Coast guard about it? I am only 16 years old and I havent had a chance to get to my recruiter yet and won't for a long time.

Do you like being cold and wet? i hope so! If you become a rescue swimmer you will spend a lot of time in the water and it won't be in warm tropical waters either. I suggest you begin exercising religiously and swim a lot. Running would be Good to. To succeed you will have to be in prime shape. Good luck.

If you go the enlisted side. You will go to boot camp first. Which is 8 weeks. Then you will go to A-school which I think is 18 weeks. That A-school is like boot camp. Watch the Guardian that has some good info if you take out Hollywood. You need to become a great swimmer. You have to be in tip top shape. It is the hardest A-school we have. If have to be mentally and physically ready to be rescue swimmer. Good luck
