It doesn't matter what software you use - if you download music that's covered by copyright law without paying for it, and you don't have permission of the copyright holder to do so, then you are in violation of international law.
While lots of people do it, lots of people are also being prosecuted. The RIAA has filed charges against literally thousands of people every year for downloading and sharing music illegally. Most people settle out of court for roughly $10,000 in fines plus lawyer fees and court costs. If you live with your parents, they could be held liable. So if you're on your own and have $10,000 or so to handle the fees, you may be okay. If you live with your parents, you should ask them if they're willing to lose the house and car(s) so that you can download music illegally. With the RIAA being lawyer-rich and hungry for prosecutions, you're playing russian roulette by breaking the law and hoping you'll get away with it.

i have no idea but i want to know also. i use limewire. the people at walmart said that it is not that bad. yeah you might get caught if you download like 1,000,000,000 songs, but downloading a few thousand wont hurt, i dont know how true that is. others say it's stealing. when you download the song from any internet source, the company loses $3, and if you can imagine how much people are downloading the same thing, that's a lot of money. so im not sure, id say do it but dont go crazy.

Anywhere you do not pay for music it is illegal. You are violating copyright law. There is no such thing as for your own use as that music will be shared among everyone on the server. You risk a hefty lawsuit of $10,000 per song you download brought by the riaa. If you actually liked these bands you'd download from itunes or buy a cd.

Speaking pure honestly... it depends how you got limewire if you signed up for it and signed the contract and paid for it then it is legal, because you paid for the downloads.. however if you got limewire for free and a torent file downlaod place or anywhere else where no contract and no money was paid it's not legal. hope that helped

yes, either way you download it wether free or buying it it is legal. It is a licensed software product, so don't worry about anything like that. I do need to let you know though that you will still have to download itunes to get it onto your ipod. But you just lcick and drag to an itunes playlist and upload them!
