People have been told to believe all sorts of nonsense over the years since Christ's assention to heaven.

Before that, every Jewish person (yes, they used to enjoy the privilege of being God's chosen people..., that is, until they rejected and murdered Jesus) knew that when you die, you are dead. Your body was placed into a memorial tomb (grave) and it was to remain there undisturbed while it disintegated back into the minerals and elements that bodies are comprised of. Genesis 3:19 states; "...you return to the ground, for out of it you where taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return."

The Bible tells us at Ecclesiastes 9:5-6; "For the living are conscious that they will die, but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all... they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything...". Earlier in the same book of Ecclesiastes at 3:19-20, Solomon was inspired to write; "For there is an eventuality as respects the sons of mankind and an eventuality as respects the beast, and they have the same eventuality. As one dies, so the other dies; and they all have but one spirit, so that there is no superiority of the man over the beast,... All are going to one place. They have all come to be from the dust, and they are all returning to the dust." Likewise, in Psalms 146:4 King David wrote; "His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; In that day his thoughts do perish."

So, that tells you what happens to your physical body following death. All life forms go through his same process of decomposition.

Regarding the human "soul", the Bible says; "Look! All the souls - to me they belong. As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son - to me they belong. The soul that is sinning, it itself will die." Ezekiel 18:4

Perhaps it's easiest to liken the "soul" to a car's engine. It is something which can be created, modified, destroyed and recycled by it's owner, but it cannot do anything without fuel. "Spirit" is that fuel. If the owner takes the fuel away from the engine, the engine stops running. The owner can put fuel back into the engine any time he chooses, or he can decide to let a useless engine rust back into the molecules it was made from.

So, the soul requires spirit to operate. But the soul is subject to eventual death when it wears out. Ever tried to start an engine that's rusted away? When it's dead, it's dead!

I know this sounds pretty bleak, but that's what the Bible says, word for word!

That's the bad news!

The Good News is that, while passing the death sentence upon all mankind because of Adam and Eve's intentional disobedience to His direct instruction, God lovingly promised eventual "parole" to all via a resurrection from death. He even promised to abolish death altogether, but not before giving mankind sufficient time to decide how they would respond to the perfect teachings of His Only Begotten Son, Jesus. The jewish faith has made it's decision already, and now it's up to the rest of us as to who we serve and how we prove our obedience.

Do we follow the teaching and traditions of men and their false religions? ("They publicly declare that they know God, but they disown Him by their works." Titus 1:16) Or, do we "Make sure of all things; hold fast to what is fine." 1 Thessalonians 5:21?

Heavy, Man!!!

When you pass away, your soul goes on, the soul actually has a long and difficult journey ahead. You can think of the journey as being a long road trip, ship cruise, air travel around the world or however you wish to envision this long and difficult journey, but now the question is, what would a soul be doing while it is moving forward after death?
While you are allowing your subconscious to deal with that question, then let me point out that you could also ask what your soul was doing before you were born. Yes, what is the difference between before birth and after death?
In both cases it must be a period of time, or not time, that the soul is without body. What the heck would a soul without body do after or before having a body?
I suggest that humans even with Hubble, and all the GB's Microsoft can shove into a piece of sand or two, Humans can not even begin to explain or answer these questions. No, I think you have to begin refining what humans are trying to do, to understand, or what they need to learn if they hope to improve humanities chances of not only survival but also fulfillment.
Face it, if humanity is going to survive as an unbroken chain of birth and death into the future, even though our galaxy is also going to die, then we are going to need to learn to accept a few things about our nature and our needs, along with the needs of the universe for that matter.
Talk about busy, and without the slightest problem with boredom, we humans must begin to think past war, hatred, and maybe even concept of justice. What if there was justice? I mean like, Justice is! Would their be a need to think and talk about justice?
Great question, and keep up the good work!

Depends on what you are calling the "soul" If you mean spirit then to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. What happens next is up to him. There seems to be a few things that happen but there may be more. It is all up to GOD much like our life here is. We will just have less choices.

It doesn't go anywhere because there is so such thing as a soul. The soul is something religions made up so that they would be able to guilt more people into converting to that religion by caring them with lurid descriptions of what happens after you die.

Nobody knows the answer to this question...and if people say they know, they don't.
Many people believe many different things about the after life.
I can only hope that I will go to a heaven-like place, or perhaps even be reincarnated.
I believe in living life to the fullest while you are here. Take risks, be crazy, fall in love and eat fatty foods if you want. Personally, I try not to worry about what will happen to me when I die because I'd rather spend my time playing my instruments, riding my horse or being with people I love because those are the things that define me, not death.

But according to Hindu mythology the soul goes thru 8400000 (eighty four lakh) births, once of every species to be reborn again as a human. Thats a pretty long time .

The soul never dies, that is the innermost deepest part of mankind
It lives on throughout eternity, it is infinite
It will go to Heaven or Hell
where ever that person destined his life to go to

The soul is you. It dies if you die. The Bible also sometimes refers to the soul as your life, but again, if you die, your life does not continue. The doctrine of the immortal soul is not a Bible teaching but a man-made one.

Two destinations only: the believer in Christ, their soul goes into the presence of the Lord. The one who has rejected Jesus Christ; their soul goes to outer darkness...and ultimately, they will be cast into the lake of fire for all eternity.

I'm so sorry to be so blunt. A straight question deserves a straight answer.
