It depends on the mastectomy that is being performed: You have what is called a bilaterial, as well as unilateral procedures to differentiate the difference there are several mastectomy that can be performed 1) Radical mastectomy 2) modified Radical Mastectomy 3) Simple Masectomy 4) Segmental resection 5) lumpectomy which ever one may be the case for you those are the different ones that will be performed. If you mean mastectomy, that's the removal of a breast. A bilateral mastectomy would be the removal of both breasts. This surgery is usually done for the diagnosis of breast cancer. Both men and women can get breast cancer and not a lot of people are aware of this.
