I have been told by a friend that is a breeder that a bischon does not shed and is hypoallergenic. I think I read someplace that the basenji is also non shedding and is barkless.

Yeah...you are right. Poodles don't shed. The best dog I have ever known for not shedding and not smelling "like a dog" is a Schnoodle (a Schnauzer/Poodle mix). My aunt and uncle had a Schnoodle named Cricket for 15 years. My aunt is very sensitive to smells and is an extreme clean freak. I mean even the slightest smell and she is having a fit spraying air freshener and burning incense and candles. And the first sign of a dog hair and she would have been vacuuming the whole house from top to bottom. She bathed Cricket about once a month but mainly only because he would get into something dirty, not because of smell. I can't remember ever seeing even one piece of loose dog hair on anything in their house. He was a great sized dog too. He was big enough that you weren't afraid of him being too dainty or fragile to love and yet small enough to be a lap dog and to enjoy as a house dog. I think you would really enjoy this "mutt breed".

poodles do not shed nor bischons. find a pooX if you can, just know that you will be getting it groomed evry 6 to 8 weeks at about 32$ each time. Look into Italian Greyhound or Whippet rescue, they shed very little. Or if you could go to the 55lb mark a female greyhound. Also schnauzers have minnimal shedding (once again the grooming cost about 34$ every 6 to 8 weeks) Feel free to e mail me if you would like

Yes it is very true that poodles don't shed much. Same with most that are mixed or were mixed with poodle to develop a breed, like: Miniature Schnauzer, Bischon Frise
Labradoodles are large dogs. It is the mixing with the poodle that makes it's hair less shedding.
Some with very very short hair shed, but it isn't as noticable, like Pit Bulls, Greyhounds, Whippets, Italian Greyhounds, Boston Terriers, miniature pinschers, Mexican hairless chihuahuas, Chinese Crested...

I have a Yorkie (Yorkshire Terrier) that is just fantastic. They are small dogs (under 8 pounds) and they do not shed. As a matter of fact, their fur is almost like human hair and has the same properties, needs to be brushed and bathed, but has no "doggy odor" at all and no shedding. Plus they are adorable and very smart! I've had many, many pets in my life and my Yorkie is by far the best dog I've ever had. I highly recommend them! Good luck!

really anything with poodle in it usually takes on non shedding hair. Poodle and Maltese is a nice mix if you want a mutt.

I have a poodle mix who does not shed at all. But, he needs a lot of brushing because the fur gets matted easily. When it is clipped he looks bald, so I didn't repeat that mistake. I have heard bichons & schnauzers are also good.

Poodles shed by the single hair, not visible on the floor!

Poodles and bichon frise don't shed. Anything mixed with these will shed very little to none.

Our family has had so many miniature schnauzers and they are great for not shedding, it's great after having one that does. The one we have now had never shed. Good Luck.
