I've been seeing a Doc for OCD and depression for a few years. The guy seems really overworked (like all mental health services) and I don't feel like he takes to time to really get to the bottom of my problems. I've been taking Paxil 60mg for a few years and I think it's no longer working. His suggestion that I add buspirone didn't help much either. It seems like he's only willing to do something different when I have a total crisis. I don't want to wait till that point!

I have good insurance. The doc is a family friend so I'm trying to think about how I should tell him I want to see someone else.

Its difficult to find quality mental health especially if you dont have insurance. My brother had similar problems and was able to get help through a community church program that helped pay the cost. Good luck

I'm sorry you are feeling this way.

I'd like to offer help, but I just don't know. Where do you live? Are you wanting free services?

If your doctor really is a friend, he/she will understand when you tell her/him that you want to see a psychatrist. He/she will want what is best for you, and getting mental health care is what is best for you, if you need it. If your doctor doesn't understand he/she is not really that good of a friend.

Maybe your insurance can hook you up with another psychiatrist; or maybe you can look in the Yellow Pages under physicians or medical doctors, sub heading: psychiatrists.
