I just got a dog from a woman, it had babies infact still has milk. But I noticed her nose is cracked dried and in some areas white even. She says the vet said it lacks oils. well , what does that mean? what do I do about it. Another question I have is she says she gave it shots at home, well, is that okay? do i need to get her immunizations again? any information is helpful. I do plan to take her to the vet but not right now as I just paid 800 dollars to fix my van so I'd like to hold out till next pay check but what do I do until then?

You should be able to wait until you see your vet about her nose, they will be able to give you an ointment to put on it. If the woman says she gave shot, Id make her give you some sort of proof for your records and so you will know when she is next due. She will still need to get a rabies vaccine from a vet, it is illegal for breeders (or anyone other than a vet) to purchase and give it. Her milk should dry up, just watch her teats, make sure you dont see any of them becoming hard, swollen, red or hot, that could mean she has an infection.

Just like human mommas children take essential vitamins and calcium from the body during pregnancy. Oils that the person spoke of you can put back by giving her some bacon grease on her dry food mix in a heaping melted tablespoon for every 10 pds. every 2-3 days. for two weeks then keep it a routine every two weeks or you see a lack of luster in the coat of which a raw or cooked eggs every week helps the coat and as far as the shots go yes yes yes you can go to your nearest feed store and get buy all of the shots except rabies of which are only given by authorized dispensers IE.. Vets or techs at the chain stores.

While it's okay for the breeder to give the shots herself, you still need proof of them for your records, and to know when a buster is due.
The cracked, whitish nose is something that concerns me a lot, as I had three different dogs in my rescue throughout the years with same problem, and every time it turned out to be cancer. It may be nothing, but I would s till have her checked out by a vet as soon as you'll get your next paycheck.

if you must wait to take her to the vet start her on the lowest dose of vit e and fish oil you can find (walmart sells gel caps in 50mg maybe less) as for the shots, she siad she had them, take her word right now b/c if she did and you double up on them you could make her very sick. What kind of dog is she, if you e mail me I may be able to help a little more
