I think that whenever someone claims that there is no global warming,or humans are not causing or increasing it,it just means they have too many things they don't want to give up,and don't care about the future of our children.I love my kids,so I do care.OK,that said...
Anything you do to reduce your energy use will help.I'm sure you know that cutting beef from your diet helps because cows produce methane.I doubt that it helps a lot,but who knows.Plant trees when and where you can.The National Arbor Day Foundation gives you ten trees with a $15 donation. They also have a many different kinds of trees you can order.I joined and got 10 flowering trees.
If everyone either biked or walked every time it was feasable, the results would be so astounding even the naysayers would have to rethink their stance.I mean,we would no longer be the fattest country, our dependence on oil would go down and antidepressant sales would drop because exercise is a mood booster.
Oh,another thing I am doing, besides recycling, switching to Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs(They save me more money than they claim to!)and hanging my laundry up to dry,is avoiding trash bags at all costs. We get enough plastic grocery bags, and sometimes you just can't avoid that if you do very much shopping. They don't always have enough boxes and I don't have enough canvas bags. And,we have three dogs,so we have to buy at least one 50 pound bag of food a week.I use the dog food bags as trash bags, too, and they work even better than trash bags. They don't leak or break and they are free.Going green means saving money!
I hope I've helped a little bit.Don't listen to the others that don't want to make the effort.Let's say we are wrong about global warming. What harm will trying to fix it do?None. It will keep our air cleaner and save some of our precious resources. If they are wrong? It will be devastating.I'd rather err on the side of caution.

Good god what terrible answers... and one from somebody claiming to be a GEOLOGIST? I'm guessing he graduated at the bottom of his class, since he obviously doesn't pay attention to scientific evidence very well. How sad...
Anyway, here's a few things we can all do to slow/stop the global warming trend (the one that all reasonable scientists accept as reality)....
- If electricity use is cut by making more efficient appliances and gadgets it will cut the burning of coal for electricity generation.
- Higher mileage cars and trucks would put a huge dent in the amount of gasoline burned.
- Higher efficiency work vehicles would further cut back the need for burning petroleum based fuels.
- Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is a new technology that will hopefully allow humans to actually remove excess CO2 from the atmosphere, aiding the oceans and plants in ridding the air of CO2.
- The use of clean and renewable energy such as solar and wind power could easily replace the burning of coal as the primary means of electricity generation. This would remove a huge contributor to global carbon emissions.
With all these changes it would be possible to lower CO2 emissions to 1970 levels within a decade. This would be a huge step forward in stoping the global warming trend.
EDIT:
Dear Holden....
He was using totally irrelevant and misleading information to dispute the fact that humans have caused global warming. That is not only sad, but means that he has a very poor grasp of science. As a geology major I find his manipulation of science to be disgusting. The fact that you're defending him is just absurd. The idea that what has happened to earth's climate in the past 50 years is a normal fluctuation is not at all supported by the geologic record.

That's s typical uneducated question for this forum. You cannot stop global warming!!! Its a natural phenomena. Its been happening for thousands of years since the end of the last glacial maximum. And the sea level has been rising since then too. Humans have been adding CO2 to the atmosphere and, yes the evidence suggests that we are contributing to the greenhouse effect but we'll never stop global warming.
To Brooks B,
Your off you head!!!
Just ask Holden

As poplular an idea as this, not everyone believes in it.. or that it is happening.. I am one.. perhaps you dont agree with me and that is ok.. but assumeing something like this does happen, who are we to say we did anything to cause it, let alone do anything to stop it... Nature is all changeing and all adapting, thats the way it was created to be.. Humans are the great consumers in more ways than one, this is also how we were created to be.. To say we can or should even do anything to change the way nature is designed, in my opinion is vain..
Just my opinion and two cents.. Some will agree with me and some wont.. either way, life will go on.. :)

I'd like to see proof that there is global warming before we start trying to stop it. It has been obscenely cold in my area lately.

Xeno said that the climate has been getting generally warmer since the last ice age.... do you dispute this statement?
Xeno said that this has been natural... do you dispute this statement?
Xeno said, 'Humans have been adding CO2 to the atmosphere and, yes the evidence suggests that we are contributing to the greenhouse effect'... do you dispute this statement?
There is not one falsehood in the geologist's post. How sad you have created one in your own mind.
