some reasons:
1.If you wash your hands more than regularily the soap could dry out your hands
2.if you do not wash all the soap off of your hands.
3. use lotion more often
4. durring the winter season humity drops and there is less moisture in the air

A likely culprit could be washing too many dishes, or using caustic substances.
My recommendation (it really does work), is to buy a hand scrub and use that to get the existing dry skin off, and then buy a thick hand cream and rub that all over your hand before you go to bed and then put on gloves (surgical gloves work great because they trap moisture).
I hope this helps you!

If you can see the fatty tissues beneath your skin you should definitely get stitches. The wound is too deep for it to heal on its own and you do stand a chance of getting some sort of infection.

Do you stay in extremely cold region? If yes, it may be because of dry weather. If not, then consult some dermatologist for any type of skin infection.
