We're planning a 6 hour trip with the kids and that will be the longest one they've been on. They are 4 and 6. Driving in the city is bad enough with them fighting and being restless. Any tips would be great.

Check List:
Portable DVD player & DVDs (get one and save your trip)
Game Boy & IPODS or CD players
Roll of paper towel (the whole thing)
Toilet paper or tissues (you will thank me)
Dramamine (chewable for kids. Take 1 before you start-even if they dont nomally get sick)
Pepto Bismal (chewable tabs)
Zip Lock bags (barfing or potty emergencies)
Barf bags (from planes)
water bottles (freeze some of them. No soda or juice *spills*)
snacks, fruits, sandwiches cut small (avoid gum & geasy food)
Books, puzzel books, maps, crayons. (remember, reading can bring on car sickness)

The night before: Dress them in "sleeping clothes" like sweat pants & T shirt so you dont have to dress them in the morning.

LEAVE BEFORE DAWN while they are still sleeping. You miss the rush hour trafic, and they dont wake up for a good 2 hours of the trip.
Or LEAVE LATE IN THE EVENING. Still no traffic, and they pass out in the dark. In "sleeping clothes" you can put them straight to bed when you arrive.

Do you have a .99 cent store or dollar tree near you? Get some Cd's there that are great they have fairy tales & even bible storys. Get them coloring books and games there too. And if you can get them thier own cd player's no fights! And when we take trips I put one on each window. That way they can look out of the window. Play the how many color cars game. Licence plate game. And look for car pillows in case they fall asleep. Make sure to take breaks as needed. And give them thier own maps of where you are going. And take different color markers and mark the route so they can fowoll along & so you don't get asked every five min "are we there yet!"

Invest in a portable dvd player (with 2 screens to stop the fighting) and some kids movies.....its worth the money! I take my two BOYS (ages 10 and 12) on a 15 hour ride to the beach every year and with the dvd player...I hardly know they are there. Also, if you can...drive at night, they will sleep most of the way and traffic is not as bad. Have fun and good luck!

Music or some form of audio is usually the best way to go about things. I personally download podcasts of my favorite radio show (Radio Playhouse) but your kids may be too young for them. I suggest you find and download the audio of a stand up comedy perfomance that you find appropriate for your children. Comedy sketches often last from 40 minutes to several hours and they'll keep your children entertained. It's easy enough to download and put onto a cd, but it may be difficult finding a comedian appropriate for a 6 and 4 year old.

a conveyable DVD participant. the common childrens movie is a million a million/2 hours long..keeps them occupied until you end for a relax. Ipersistent to Florida each 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, 23 hours using, and the DVD participant works like a charm. ultimate element I ever offered.

Best is avoid long trips until kids are older. However if you have to, seperate them, sit between both the kids in the back and engage is some conversation. the person, who drives might find this odd, but this is is the best solution.
