I just adopted an 8 year old female cat. She seemed to do with my dog until my dog got up to get some water and she snapped, i caught her just intime before she attacked my dog.
She grawls at my cats under the door.
How would i get them to smell one another? I have 2 female cats before her, ones a year and the other is almost 7, and male cat thats almost 5 or 6.
Help please!! I dont want any of them to get hurt though, especially my dogs because they are really old.
Thanks!

p.s.
i have to show her off [:

Hello,

Your new cat sounds like she's terrified! Do you know the history of your new cat? If your cat has not experienced a 'cat friendly dog' before, her natural instinct to defend herself is going to kick in. The situation could be aggrevated by the fact that you already have an established family group.

I'd suggest confining your new cat to one room that none of the other animals use regularly. Give her a few days to get used to the new room - put in a cosy box/bed for her to sleep in, a litter tray, food & water for her so that she doesn't have to encounter the others until she gets used to you & her new surroundings.

The next step is to leave the door open. This will give you the chance to supervise any meetings and give your pets the chance to introduce themselves gradually. Try your best not to interfer or show to much interest as this can reinforce a feeling that if you're worried then there must be something to worry about. A bit of hissing & spitting will help your pets decide who's dominant - - but make sure you step in if things start to turn nasty. Try not to shout and use calm soothing baby talk.

Hopefully, this will only take a week or so. Then you can start to move the new cat's food bowl gradually closer to the others. By feeding them apart you are reassuring them all that they do not have to compete for food. Make sure that you have plenty of toilet facilities - one tray per cat plus one is a good rule of thumb - cats can get quite terretorial over their litter trays.

Finally - lots of play and hugs for everyone.

Lots of luck.x

i'm genuinely no specialist, yet i does no longer leave a canine outdoors all day even as this is been conscious of being interior all alongside. I, like you, might want to have both animals interior the homestead if you're there to "supervise" and then designate a particular area of the homestead if you're not to any extent further there. as an social gathering, my friends have an identical difficulty and they have the cats interior the basement with a pair kitty condos and nutrition and water, and positively clutter containers,(which suits out properly, as no count number how typically you sparkling the clutter containers there is always a fragrance, so no individual travelling even is conscious there are clutter containers interior the homestead!) even as the canine get the important aspect of the homestead. (more effective powerful for deterring undesirable persons even as no individual is homestead)

First you have to make sure your dog is cat friendly if it is thats good. now your new cat might not be dog friendly because of experiences or anything its always good to do it slowly. try having the cat and dog together when the dog is calm and not all playfull so he doesnt scare her. and for your new cat to get used to your other cats just have them in the same enviroment they will get used to it

good luck :o)

Keep them separated until they get used to each others scents. You can use blankets or towels that they sleep on to do this, put the blanket that one slept on in the other's space. You can also try feeding them at the same time. If they are busy eating, they won't be busy swatting at each other.

I love her she is so cute, but I have no idea what to do to make her more friendly. Maybe you could try to hypnotize her or play a recording of a friendly cat purring in her ear while she sleeps.
