does a chow need brusing? do you need water every day? yes a chow should be brushed daily. they are a big poof ball of hair. they require dedicated owners if they wish to keep the fluffy coat. as for bathing, no more than once a month. more than that can dry out the skin and cause dry skin, it will ruin the natural oils a dog's coat requires to stay healthy. a chow requries a lot of attention on the owner's party just in grooming alone. research the breed and it's characteristics and made sure it's what's right for you.

Chow chows definitely need to be brushed or their hair will mat. Once matted it can pull on the dogs skin causing them a considerable amount of pain. The should be brushed daily or at the minimum, weekly.
As for bathing, my chow chow does start to smell after a few weeks, especially in the summer. I use a moisturizing baby shampoo and sometimes as heavy duty condition to make brushing easier. They are definitely not the easiest dogs to bathe because their fur is almost impossible to completely soak without using a hose (summertime) or a high pressure, detachable shower head. It is possible to bathe them without those tools, but much more difficult.
Other than the excess hair and bathing though, they are the most wonderful dogs.

As a groomer I suggest 15mins daily of brushing and at least 4 appointment w/ a grooming shop, at the begining af each season when he will blow coat. As for shampoo do not us people shampoo or conditoner the pH levels are WAY different. Go to your local pet store snd get an actual doggie shampoo. Better yet google Espree pet products and find a well priced placed to order from. When washing at home after you have rinsed all the shampoo and conditioner out mix 1/2cp water w/ 1/2cp vinager pour over the coat and rinse again. The vinager mix helps to push the remaining soap out and helps to release dead under coat feel free to e mail me

They need weekly .. if not daily brushing... YOu can buy dog shampoo.. but i can suggest a old groomers trick... buy a bottle of herbal, detangling, or tgel shampoo, make sure to rinse it out well... and top it off with a cheap conditioner.like suave. Yes human shamopoo does just as good of a job but you muse use conditioner to keep hair from breaking.. Ask a groomer, or look on net for suggestions..
