Runner09, my mother has been a hair dresser for 50 years. This issue has come up before and the answer remains the same. Have a permanent done, but have your hair combed straight. Let the solution do it's work then have it neutralized, as is the common procedure for a permanent. You will never alter the natural wave in your hair, but you can have what you desire. Within reason, the longer you wear your hair, the better it will tend to look. Seek out a professional hairdresser and talk to her about what you desire. What ever a "permanent" treatment costs is what you will spend. First time out, have it done professionally. Yes it can look nice, it will be straight if combed out that way, and it should look healthy.

Don't use chemical relaxers or straighteners for straightening. It might get rid of some of the curl, but it won't get rid of the frizz. I have coarse, kinky-curly hair and I've fought it all my life. The best thing I have found is to go to an experienced stylist at a salon and get a body wave. The woman I go to uses the biggest perm rods they make and even though it's a "perm", it relaxes and controls my frizz & curl.
When she takes the rods out of my hair at first, my head is full of wet curls, but then I towel it dry and style it myself right there in the salon using a high-quality ionic blow dryer. I also use a little bit of straightening serum on it before drying it. (BioSilk is wonderful serum)The dryer pulls the curl right out when I use a large round brush while drying. No frizz either. I touch up with a curling iron so my hair isn't too flat looking. (depending on the length of your hair, you might want to use a flat iron). The body wave also changes the texture to make it much softer and smoother. It doesn't damage your hair if the stylist knows what she is doing.
My advice is to talk to a stylist who is experienced in doing all types of body waves and is familiar with doing it this way. And make very sure they use a quality product and the biggest perm rods.

I have thick dark hair as well.
I dont know what chemically straightened hair is, but if your talking about rebonding then I've had that done .
My hair was really dry and unhealthy before I got it done and it actually improved the health of my hair. But my hair turned out too straight, i could put my hair in a pony tail and it was that straight that i would still stick out quite a bit. But some people like that super straight look, so I'd say go for it if you like really realy straight hair.
Oh also you dont need to blow dry or anything, you just wash your hair as usual and its drys super straight

nicely until eventually now you do something such as you want to continuously do your learn. I even have heard too many memories approximately chemically straightened hair, and that they do no longer look to be sturdy. So i might say do no longer do it. And only positioned funds into an exceptionally sturdy flat iron, and anti-frizz products. Its a lots much less of a threat. additionally, the reason your hair remains wavy in spots is for the reason which you're no longer taking it sluggish to straighten it. Its an prolonged technique for curly/wavy hair.

Do you mean getting a relaxer? Yeah, it would work better than going through that long process. Chances are if your hair is thick, it would look fine if you got a relaxer. Yeah.. use the stuff commonly referred to as 'perm' (which is actually the process that makes you hair curly) but is actually a relaxer (chemically straightens it) and hope for the best.. Good Luck

yeah i agree with the first answerer. i chemically straightened my hair 2 years ago, after a couple months my hair started growing out and i had this little bump in my hair that shows the difference with my new hair growing at the roots and the one that`s chemicically straightened. i`m telling you, not a pretty sight. personally, mine didn`t even stay straight that much. waste of my money. i think it`s worth the money to buy a good hair straightener, it stays more straight and doesn`t make your hair look so dead rather than putting chemicals in it.

I have hair like yours and I used to chemically straighten it from time to time, but I don't think it ever came out very smooth. these days, I wash it at night, twist it into a bun or a french twist while damp and go to sleep if I want it smooth and straight. The next morning, my hair is usually smooth and straight and has nice body since the loopy curl from the bun or twist dries into it.

dont chemically straighten your hair. its actually better to straighten your hair every single day than chemically straigten your hair once. and overall, it doesnt look very good to do it either. it usually ends up really coarse and flat looking. it may be a long process but stick with the hair straightening

If your hair is just frizzy and semi wavvy, go to the dominicans and have them press it out. They are really good at this. They wil put conditions and frizz serum to take it down a notch
