Why should they? No one else seems to want to stand up for their actions. Our "president" lies his way into a war, bullies scientists about global warming, allows hundreds to die in New Orleans due to his inaction then blames everyone and there mother for the results of his decisions.

Why should teenagers be held to a stricter standard?

Yes. Most teenagers, 13+, have an good idea of right from wrong. They may not have full responsibility for their actions but surely must have some.

Yes and I think everybody in the whole world is responsible for their own actions! Babies, toddlers, young adults, middle aged, elderly.. anybody! We all have a mind and our mind is the only thing in this world that we can totally control by ourselves. We can choose to feel a certain way about something. We can choose to take an experience and store it as a a good one or a bad experience. When we act, its all because of our thoughts, either consciously or subconsicously.. Either way, if you're not responsible for your actions, who is? People have problems if they answer this question.."my moms is responsible" or "my probation officer because.." We are in control of our minds and our actions. Yes, there are consequences in life.. you touch the hot skillet then you will burn your finger.. you study for the test then you will know the material better for the test.. There are only a few exceptions and those only affect special needs people.

Hello!! :o) Teenagers are already responsible for what they do. Some teenagers - however - rarely have to face up to that reality because they have parents who hold to the mistaken belief that to love a child/teen is to keep that child/teen from having to understand the concept of consequence. To shield any child/teen from understanding that concept is about the most UNloving thing any parent could do. Appreciating consequence is what anchors an adult. It is the very 'thing' that makes him/her a mature human being. Human beings NEED to know that there is a line in the sand and that if they choose to cross that line - THEY will be held accountable. A society that [for the most part] understands the concept of consequence and one that does not - is the difference between a civilized society and one that is uncivilized. Have a great day!! Craig!! :o)

To some extend. They're old enough to at least know some right from wrong, not like a much younger child or an animal, however I'd also tend to be more lenient if they hadn't messed up *very* badly. They should be able to make a few mistakes & experiment a little with less consequenses than an adult, at least in small stuff. There's no excuse for real crimes, they should have learned that much, but if it's just kids play and maybe something gets scratched up a little or they are just loud, I won't be quite as mad as I would if they'd been adults.

Yes.

When I was younger, I did stupid things. And I knew exactally what I was doing. I knew what punishment awaited me. I knew it all, I did it anyways.

If I hadn't been held responsible, I would have done it again. Or done worse.

There is nothing wrong with the teenage brain that keeps them from knowing what they are doing is wrong. I know the scientists are saying that, but thats because alot of people are insisting that noone is bad and needs reasons to take the blame off the kids and the parents.

Only to a degree. A teenager is still a child. If that is found offencive to any teenagers out there then you are being childish about it.
The brain, body, and mind of a teenager is growing at a rapid rate in need of help. Help in foodstuff, help in respite, and help in adjusting.
One of the things that the studies have been finding in the last five years is the amount of sleep the teenager needs just for his/her brain to recuperate from the day's activities. It is an immense amount. Something to the tune of ten hours a day is required for the teenage brain to sleep!
The body! It needs vast amounts of energy in growing and vast amounts of energy for the daily living alone. Combine the food needed for the body's growth, and the food needed just to live on such an accelerated spurt of growth as well as sustenance: you would find it to be a phenomenal amount of protein, calories and vitamins required for a proper diet.
The mind. Holy mackeral andy!!! The brain of a teenager is rewiring itself....literally. It is working it's paths and expansion towards an adult life. It is changing. The brain is actually changing as the teenager is growing, and it is changing as rapidly as the body is.
He or she is not an adult yet. Not in body nor mind. The maturity of the brain, body, mind has to be all at one before you can call a child an adult. Like it or not, teenagers are still children.
So......the question is "do you think that teenagers should be responsible for their actions?" The answer is ....yes. But only to a degree that is short of adult punishment. I don't care what the crime or mistake is; the child has to be treated as such. A child. To send a child into the pen with the hardcore convicts as an adult, is not only a sin but a crime legalized. To spank the bottom of a teenager for chewing gum in class is degrading and falls short of wisdom the adult should have.
Do you see what I'm saying about being responsible only to a degree? They are old enough to grasp the concept of adulthood but not there yet! Too old to be treated as a baby, so they are not to be babied.

Yes, they definitely should be held responsible! They get away with so many things and then claim their youth as the cause of their destructive ways.

When I was a teen (not that long ago) my parents gave my sisters and I free reign to do what we wanted, but at the same time use discretion and be responsible.

People nowadays, just don't care...and that includes the way some people raise their children, they either push too much or not enough.

yes ,everybody must be responsible for their actions ,that is what the Toltecs teach and it is also a Pagan concept
Christians like to blame God or Make him responsible for everything ,this is a cop out
parents should teach their kids at an early age that the responsibility begins at home and it lies with the individual

I do believe that teenagers should be held responsible for their actions. They are old enough to know right from wrong, and what rules, regulations and laws are.
