The parents are basically kind of traditional and conservative. Also the engagement has been on for awhile and plan to have the wedding in about a year and a half.

You said your parents are traditional and conservative. Why not tell them the traditional way. Are you the male or the female in this situation? If you are the girl, why not have your fiance ask your dad for your hand in marriage? How old are you? Are you planning a big wedding? Are you planning on your parents paying for it? Wow........ I can't imagine being afraid to tell your parents that you are engaged. Do your parents not like this person that you plan to spend the rest of your life with? Why aren't you proud to be engaged and telling everyone? Are you sure you know what a big step this is? Good Luck.

I got engaged also, my parents are also very traditional. If your parents accepts him/her for who he/she is, and they love him/her. And if they had no problems with him/her what so ever. You should not be scared, one day your going to have to tell them. Or else they will find out themselves. No matter what you have to suck it up, take a deep breath and go for it. Good luck!

Tell them. Since its going to be a little while before the wedding, they shouldn't be too upset about it. It will give them ample time to get accustomed to the idea. Good luck and congratulations!!!

Just step up and tell them. Don't go into a big set-up, just spring it on them - they'll be in shock for a while, which gives you a chance to escape the situation if you don't think their reaction will be positive.
