I have found (both in myself and other students) that it is very hard to go back once you stop. When you start, you devote a specific amount of time and money to your training. If you quit, you begin to use that time and money for other things. By doing this, you are admitting that it is more important to use your time and money for other things besides training. This is very hard to overcome.

And secondly, Kendo is the art of the sword. Not other weapons.

Good luck.

I'm not very familiar with Kendo so I don't know about weapons instruction in Kendo schools.

If you take the summer off, you will lose a lot of your training. A wise man who lived over 2,000 years ago said "Learning that doesn't increase decreases". That is just as true today as it was then.

You could probably still make time to do some strokes with a shinnai or boken. Obviously what you are doing is learning how to use a sword. Nunchaka and staff have nothing to do with it.
