welcome to the club
so far as i have found we need to keep trying
we dont know how far we have come just in trying
we all have bad feeling ,it about getting over that bad feeling
ie dont judge it say thats fine now get on with it [living that is ]
your feeling of shutting down is simply because its easier than trying to explain
you dont need to explain ,it only makes us tired
move on get into that which is going on about you , meaning dont dwell on that we cant change ,move onto that we can
so change the self defeat and keep trying
its when we help others
see thier burden ,want to help others we most help our selves
who says you have to express ,dont think ....do.
you will be so busy doing you have no time to worry.
the past is gone worry cant change it
be in the moment
each second you can chose to make it better or worse.

sometimes, the best you can do is move forward...no matter how awkward it is. Let's face it, there are certain topics that are just never going to be easy to talk about.
If you are trying to share this experience with a therapist, then I suggest you simply ask them for help in getting this info out.
If it's sharing it with a significant other, then you may do the same, or at least try to let them know just how very difficult it is for you.
You could try doing something that isn't such a giant emotional leap of faith on your part; write it down first, or record yourself speaking it out loud.
Good Luck.

Write it down, the basics of what is on your mind, and tell the person you are having a hard time talking about it...maybe that can open up the conversation.

Maybe you could write the person a letter, read it through before you give it to them & see if that helps you see things different.

You address them maturely and adult like.
"I like your idea, but consider mine a moment."
Don't make your tone too hateful. Just keep your cool and it'll help.
