I had the digging problem with the dogs. First, I put a hotwire around the areas that I did not want them to go then turned off after a few weeks. The next thing I did was bury chain link fencing in the ground, laid flat, about 2 inches down. That stopped the digging all together.

Dogs that are not supervised and socialized with you often wreak havoc on their homes. If you have a huge yard in the country give them some things to do. Both these dogs are dogs that have had jobs bread into them. Give them things to find in the yard, set up a place that is there den area like a dog run. Just because you have a big yard doesn't mean they need to have free run of all of it. A solid dog run with a concrete slab or dug into the ground with fencing that they cannot chew or tear through would help to control a lot of the damage. It may be 200 to 500 to set up at first but I bet it's a lot less than the damage being done to your house. If you can, talk to your husband and negotiate with him a certain amount of time that the dogs are allowed to be inside so they feel like they have some family time too. Take some dog training classes also, these will help you just as much as them to learn their manners.

They are trying to get attention.. I had to add extra fencing to the top of my fence and bend it inward.. I have 22 dogs and 100 at the rescue so i know all kinds of escape artists.. You might have to get railroad ties to put along the bottom of the fence and check for any gaps.. my little pom will climb a fence to reach a gap 4 ft off the ground.. dogs are like kids.. they will do anything to get attention.. you might also try to see if there are any agility classes in your area to help get some of that energy out..Good luck

Labs are difficult. My sister had one that I rescued from the expressway, apparently after escaping from someone else's yard (but they never claimed her). She got an invisible fence, but had to up the voltage multiple times. The installer said their most difficult clients are labs. The fence was not completely successful. She'd run through it if there was something really enticing, like a deer to chase, but it did make her escapes much less frequent. It sounds like your dogs are bored. There are lists of suggestions for keeping dogs entertained, such as stuffing peanut butter in kongs. You may want to look for ideas.

Well my dog used to get out alot, but we put electric wiring around the top of the fence and that stopped her. We only used it for a couple of days til she learned her lesson and then turned it off. If theyre not jumping over the fence you can also put the wiring near the ground if they are digging out.

First, I think your husband is cruel. Second, the dogs are bored. They need you to play with them more and they need real toys in the yard. Since your husband doesn't like them and you're not able to provide playtime and toys, why not find a good home for them? Yes, they have been a comfort to you, but that time has passed.

you might look into getting a hot wire and put it around the yard and around the house. also try the invisible fence the goes under ground and the dog wears a special collar will zap them if they cross an area they are not.
