If a small business owner sent out a well-designed e-zine through email and gave a coupon for every person who forwarded the e-zine to 10 other people and CCed the company owner to record who did it, so the owner could give the bonus to the person.

Do you think this would work?

To receive the bonus, the person would have to sign onto an online account of the company's website and have a password for security reasons.

Umm...how would you know they weren't making up addresses? I have like 10 sub accounts on my email account. Why don't you just e-mail out a coupon to start with. Good Luck!

It may and it may not. I've never forwarded those kinds of emails on because 99% of the time you don't get the thing the email promises. I would just include the coupon in the ezine and request that people forward it on to friends and family who are interested. I've sent out many a thing when I actually received what was promised.

This could work IF:
*you have a good opt-in list
*you have the time to devote to tracking this
*you think that your prospects will actually CC you to tell you that they emailed it out.

From my experience, I know that it would be much easier and more effective to just send out a coupon. Or direct them to your website for a survey, which earns them a coupon. I know that if I received this e-zine (and regardless of the subject matter) I would toss it. My friends don't like junk mail, so I wouldn't send it.

Thats a good idea for creating word of mouth buzz. One issue is that you would have to have a great coupon that a lot of people would want. I personally probably wouldn't send out 10 messages to other people because I am skeptical. I'm skeptical because you see those everyday of "A special coupon.. Win a FREE Ipod.. etc etc.." I'm now used to just ignoring those, even if a friend sends me one. The good thing with this is that your advertising wouldn't end up in Junk Mail because its their friend who is sending this. Theres some kinks to work out, but if it worked, then of course it would advertise!:)

It would be considered chain email ala spam. It may just get moved to the trash.

Hi,

Yes such new ideas are sometimes great ideas. Then you need to test cause since no one probably ever tried it there must be done some testing. At first it looks possible.
