My son turned 3 in August and has no problem peeing in the toilet. He is not fully potty trained meaning he wears a pull-up only while sleeping. When it comes to pooping, he asks for a diaper. I practically beg him to sit on the toilet when he has the urge. He will sit and push for a minute and then he will hold it until bedtime or nap time (because he wears a pull-up to bed). HELP!

It's funny that you ask this, because I just read an article about helping your toddler go poo on babycenter.com. It was very interesting and it had links to a discussion form from other moms with the same problem. Here is the link. you will have to sign up to see the article, but it's free and the emails sent out are very informative.

My son is doing the same thing. I stopped putting a pull up on him at nite so that he can feel when he poops and pees on himself. Yes, it is gross but eventually he will learn that he does not like to be dirty. My son finally pees in the potty all the time and the pooping part he has 1/2 right. He has a pooping accident 3 times a week. It is helping but it does take a while!!! Make sure that you purchase a rubber sheet from Walmart to prevent the mattress from getting ruined! Good luck to ya!!

I have to agree with just letting him go on himself. Pull-ups only delay the process... It's like you're telling him ok, pee during the day and it's ok to **** on yourself in the middle of the night. Rubber sheets sound uncomfortable... but if you buy a waterproof mattress cover, those work as well. Good luck!
