~~~~~~~~ Easy Tuna Mornay ~~~~~~~~
This adult version of the classic tuna melt makes a great pot-luck contribution. More Fish recipes.
Serving: 8 / Prep: 10 mins / Cook: 30 mins
Total Time: 40 minutes
1 12 oz can tuna
1 11 oz can corn
1 bunch fresh parsley, chopped
1 onion, chopped
2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
2 tbsp. butter
2 1/2 cups milk
1/2 lb grated cheese
1 cup dry bread crumbs
a squeeze of lemon juice
1. Fry butter and onions until onions are cooked. Remove from heat and add flour.
2. Replace on heat and cook flour for approximately 30 seconds. Remove from heat and add milk, stirring so as not to get lumps.
3. Replace on low heat. Drain tuna and break into flakes (not chunks). Drain corn as well.
4. Add remaining ingredients except for breadcrumbs and about 1/2 cup of cheese.
5. Mix ingredients together trying not to create a mess. In a separate bowl, mix breadcrumbs and reserved cheese together.
6. Place tuna mix into a casserole dish and sprinkle breadcrumb mix over allowing the mixture to cover the whole dish. Place into a moderate oven but not over hot as you are just warming all ingredients together, for about 15 minutes.
7. For remaining 5 minutes place under a griller until breadcrumb mix is golden brown. Serve hot just by itself.
Tuna Noodle Casserole
1 can cream of celery soup
1 TBL lemon juice
1/4 cup Bisquick (to thicken)
1 and 1/2 cup milk
1 cup peas
1 can tuna (6 and 1/2 oz)--I use more though
1/2 cup green pepper
1/3 cup onion--small dice 2 TBL butter
Sautee onion and pepper in butter till soft. Add rest of ing. and simmer couple minutes to blend and heat. Mix with cooked noodles.(8 oz).
If you don't want noodles you can just put the tuna mixture in a shallow baking dish and put cheese biscuits on top and bake at 450 for 20 min. or till biscuits are nice and brown.
To make cheese biscuits just use the recipe from the Bisquick box or your favorite rolled biscuit recipe and when rolled out sprinkle cheddar cheese on dough, roll and slice like a pinwheel. Lay on top of tuna and bake as directed.
Get tuna packed in water. The easiest recipe is to make a tuna melt. I usually open the can, drain the water (by squeezing the lid down into the can) then putting the tina in a bowl. Now add anything you like. Salt, pepper,celery,onions,mustard,spices and then your favorite cheese. Using a frying pan add some butter in and put down a piece of bread. Add some of your tuna mix, put the cheese on top of the tuna and brown both sides to your liking. Enjoy!
Slow roast some tomatoes with brown sugar and vinegar in the oven with some bulbs of garlic until the tomatoes are slightly caramelised and soft. When done, cool slightly.
Panfry red onion in a pan, add the slow roasted tomatoes and garlic. Add tuna. Add some fresh basil.
Use this as a pasta sauce. You can also add button mushrooms if you like them.
Alternatively, canned tuna is pretty good mixed in with cream cheese and spring onion as a filling for sushi.
Top with tuna sauce and some grated cheese.
I eat a lot of salmon, live on the ocean, can substitue tuna...what about making a tuna hash fried up with celery, onion and rice? Or what about creamed tuna, make a white sauce, add tuna once thickened, add a little cheese if you wish and serve on toast. Makes a great lunch or supper. Let's see what else, mix tuna in with your favorite pasta and sauce, or just a little garlic butter sauce. In college I mixed salmon/tuna in with my Kraft Dinner along with broccoli florets....was health and cheap for a starving student! Good Luck! Let me know if any tickle your fancy.
Make tuna salad however you like it - I use a little mayonaise (or yogurt, or sour cream) a little relish or finely diced pickle, a little mustard, some finely diced celery and a tiny sprinkle of garlic powder - toast an english muffin, spread the tuna salad on the english muffin, top with cheese of your choice and broil til the cheese is bubbly.
When I was in college I ate this at least two or three times a week.
Pasta with tuna onion sauce
Use some butter to fry one big chopped onion. (If the tuna is in oil you can use the excess oil to fry the onion)
Don´t let the onion get too dark! Mix in the tuna flakes.
Add 3 tbsp of flour, add 1c milk and reduce the heat.
Keep stirring the sauce while it thickens. If to thick add some more milk.
Season with salt and pepper.
Serve on your favourite pasta.
This recipe is very simple and very quick to cook. You can cook the sauce while the pasta gets ready.
