If you don't have a garment bag, try one of these methods: lay the pants onto the open suitcase, folded to maintain the crease, with all the overlapping edges hanging out. Then put some other clothes on top. Then lay the jacket on in the same way, with more clothes on top. Then fold the overlapping pieces in and close it. Make sure the suitcase is not overstuffed.
Or: Turn the jacket inside out and tuck one shoulder into the other shoulder, like when you fold fitted sheets. Make sure the lapels are flat. Now fold the jacket and sleeves in half and lay it in the suitcase. Fold the pants once, like they would be on a hanger, and put them in the suitcase.
Whichever way you do it, take them out of the suitcase as soon as you get there.
