I'm confused. When I picture meeting God. I run to him and lay my head against his chest. I just want him to envelope me in his arms and take away all the pain and wrong doing in my life. However, in reality I feel like I'm not completley sure there is such a place or person. I want to believe so much it makes me emotional. Do many feel this way? Will I not go to heaven?

I know many will say "only you know if you believe".I guess what I'm trying to say is I WANT to believe. I just have questions & worry there might not be.

Faith is kind of like the willingness to believe. If you have enough faith to be willing to believe that's pretty much all you need to ask Him to reveal Himself to you. And He will. We just have to be willing and He will do the rest to show You how real He is. He wants people to know Him and His love. If that is the picture that you have in your mind of Him, then mostly likely that is the Holy Spirit giving you a glimpse of what God is wanting to be for you. He is a loving Father and He does envelope us in His arms when we are spiritually in touch with Him through Jesus.

Ask God to help your unbelief. What really stands in the way of a person wanting to believe are two things, both of which are related :
1. Pride: Thinking yourself either deserving greater than you are, and denying that you are a sinner that needs repentance and salvation, which only God can provide. Every single person woo rejects Christ has some degree of pride and selfishness, thinking he/she is "good enough" on their own merits. But in the eyes of God, "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God", and "there is none righteous; no, not one". The righteousness of man is filthy rags before God, who is perfectly just and perfectly loving.

2. Ignorance: Those who don't know Christ and the Bible (His Word), or have been "turned off" to them by others. Knowing what the Bible says about man, and what it says about God, is extremely important.

So ask yourself honestly: are these things preventing you from being saved? If so, you must first come to God without pride, and genuinely confess your sin and beg forgiveness from Him. Read His Word, especially John chapter 3, and see if you truly believe. If you do, declare that you do before God, and accept the gift of salvation; you cannot earn it. If you have done these things with a true and penitent heart, the Lord will save you, and you will feel the presence of God by His Spirit, and you will know that you are saved.

I can truly understand how you feel, I have been there too, in all the confusion that you describe here, in your question, I would say to you, please take your sincere concerns to him pray about how you feel, tell him every thing you feel and ask him to help you find him, I am sure that if you respectfully and sincerely ask him and you truly want to know he will help you, but you must believe with all your heart that God is the hearer and answerer of prayers. This is what I did when I was there where you are now:I reasoned that maybe there is no God, so I was thinking about this for some time and I couldn't work it out, then I had a thought that struck me, I thought if there is no God then it is futile thing to pray or do anything, but, I thought if he is existing and cares for us he will hear and answer me if I pray to him! So, I did pray to him, I prayed, True God if you really do exist, please show me the way I should go to find out your ways, and he did answer me. He answered me because that is What God wants us to to to truly search for him, and I did find him with his help of course, I also found his truth, true peace of mind as well as happiness even in this sorrowful world that we are living in, these days(John8:32) I hope that helps, feel free to email me if not.

You'll get a lot of advice in here, but this is something you need to figure out for yourself. Why do you think there's a God? Why do think there might not be a God? You don't have to make a decision right now. Live life a little more and see if the answer comes to you.

I'm in the same boat as you! I WANT TO BELIEVE!!! I have asked God to come into my heart but I know that thoughts in my mind keep him out.
I know too much about the world to accept the Bible as fact so I have no viable guide to show me HOW God can exist. This keeps me from finding the comfort of an all-loving God.

If I were you I would concentrate on the present life you don't need neurosis like religious beliefs to have a moral and wonderful life now and when death hangs it up you will not have wasted the time you had. These are few quotes from the father of psychology....:

Religion is an illusion and it derives its strength from the fact that it falls in with our instinctual desires.
The more the fruits of knowledge become accessible to men, the more widespread is the decline of religious belief.
Religion is comparable to a childhood neurosis.

No one can tell you whether you can go to heaven or not.We can't decide,it is He who decide.
He is always waiting there for us,we are the one who decide whether to believe in Him or not.
"Faith",what is faith?
Faith is you believe it before or without seeing it.That is called faith.Thomas doesn't believe that Jesus has arised from the death before he saw Him standing in front of him,and Jesus said:Those who believe before seeing are blessed.
"Those who seek will find".He promised that.
Don't worry, just trust Him and He will do the rest.
Keep praying.

it is written,In seeing faith is lost.
A son has faith His dad will come home from work as He does every day. He is not home, yet the son has faith.
When Dad is finally home the faith is no longer there but the joy of the son seeing his dad home is awesome. I know I am that son.
So we need to have faith. Your doing ok I am sure of that. we all need to let faith work her perfect works. Then we will see.
Hope it helps .
