The theme should be determined by the people you are inviting. You can not through a "Super Hero" party if you know a lot of older people are going to come!!!
Or you can not through an "60ties/70ies" party if the guests are going to be younger ones!!!
The theme you be appropriate for the guests. After all you want them to feel welcome and happy, so the can have lots of fun.

Well, maybe if u are a kinda groovy and with some taste maybe u should do....disco combine with MTV or Golden Globe Awards.
You get people to come as their favorite celebrity and then u hold a costume contest and give out prizes like fake Golden Emmy Awards. I mean it would be cool to see what other people think in dress-ups and costumes parties!!

I went to an AMAZING roaring 20s party once. It was so fabulous, the guys all dressed as gangsters and women wore head dresses and feather boas with bright red lipstick etc.
There was great swing music and it was just fabulous fun! Best theme party I've ever been to!

possible themes for a party:
favorite character in literature
dress like an old teacher
bikini wear
pick a word (everytime a person says that word-off comes an article of clothing. the word has to be a well-known one, but one that is not always used--ex. tissue, pharmacy, roses, etc).

Go with something unique. "Thrift Store Prom" where everyone's suits & dresses come from the thrift store (cheap too). Since it's winter "bad sweater party" where people wear their old ugly knit sweaters.

Crazy parties are great! Shiny stuff everywhere, dancing music playing, disco ball, fog machine, D.J. mixing it up, etc.!!!!

alter-ego party: people come as anything they feel their alter-ego is
dirty old man/school girl: men come as old men, suspenders- girls dress as sexy little school girls
pj/underwear: wear you favorite nighttime outfit
halloween: give people a chance to have fun and wear a costume another time then halloween
