Big brother is watching. It will only be a matter of time before their computers notice that they have W-2 forms and withholdings from your employer and no filings from you. But, If you alway work for cash, never get a drivers licence, never register to vote, never go to jail, never buy property, never finance a car or another purchase, never had a SSI #. Then and only then are your chances good of staying off the Taxman"s radar.
Foot Note:
When Jesus would go and minister to the worst people of the earth his deciples would follow and admire him. Only when he went to the tax collectors home and ate with him did they object. There has to be a limit as to how far down you'll go they said to him. And the house of the tax collector is way to far down!! Whores? OK. Thieves? OK Murders? Still OK. But the house of the tax collector? Thats going to far. even then no one liked the S.O.B.s

Dream on.

And lots of people file in some years but aren't required to file in others, so there's no tracking of where they came from or where they went from the tax system.

If any of your income is anything recorded officially, like a legitimate job, then it's reported to the IRS. If it doesn't show up on a tax return, they will wonder why it didn't.

If you get all your income "under the table", you might or might not get away with it. But if you do get caught, and that can happen in a lot of different ways, the penalties can be ugly.

You HAVE to file a tax return if your income is more than the standard deduction. If you don't then you could face prison time, have your wages garnished (for more than the amount you owe the government), and ruin your credit (they will put a tax lien on your credit bureau). There are only two things you have to do in life pay taxes and die.

No, not true. After a while, both the SSA and IRS will wonder why there is no income ever against your SS number. Then they'll come looking for their $$$.
