i dont ever cook meat...seems like it smells weird..kinda sweet? should i take it back?

Meat that is on the dark side , and smells funny and feels sticky its bad

If it is ground beef it should be bright red when raw. If it has any discoloration and is browning and slimy to the touch RAW-then you should take it back. You'll have a hard time proving that your meat is bad once it is cooked, because more than likely they will blame the storage and cooking method on you. They will probably do that to you with the Raw meat too, but at least you can prove that it was in the package and you got it from them.

If it's dark or brownish on the outside. It shouldn't be dark on the inside either but that's supermarket hamburger patties for ya...
I have no idea what "sweet" smells like...
A butcher on the old Martha Stewart show said you should use ground meat the day you buy it.

Take it back only if it is not due to any thing you did to cause it to go bad. Yes, it is bad when it smells weird.

Hamburger is really the easiest to tell. It really smells horrible and gets slimy. U can tell right away if u have a good smeller.

Take it back, any foul smell on anything fresh you buy is suspect.
