My daughter is almost 10 & she has a very bad over bite with a pretty large gap between her top front teeth. Is she to young for braces? I don't want her to have braces when she is older if it can effecively be done now.

I had braces at 8 because of a really bad overbite. The orthodontist just had me come in when ever I had a loose tooth and they would take care of it. The biggest problem is the wisdom teeth or molers because you don't want those to come in and bunch the teeth together... they will just keep an eye on them and I had my wisdom teeth pulled at 16 to prevent them from messing up my teeth.

Talk to your dentist or an orthodontist. It is unwise to get braces before your daughter looses all her baby teeth. There is no need to straighten teeth that are just going to fall off. However an orthodontist can begin the process by pulling out extra teeth if she has overcrowding or can can use some other devises to begin aligning the adult teeth she has. I had horrible teeth and began going to the orthodontist in grade school. I had braces in forth grade. After several devises including braces my teeth are perfect. The sooner you get started, the sooner those braces will come off. You don't want to worry about braces when it comes to prom or graduation pictures. Good luck, your daughter will appreciate straight teeth when she is older.

As long as she lost all of her baby teeth she should be fine. I got my braces right after I turned 10 and had no problems

You dentist will tell you when it is time for braces. There is no age limit per say but your dentist will advise you when to get an ortho consult. If you dentist has brought this subject up yet then ask him about it when she goes in for her next 6 month checkup.
