I'm 21, and due to unforeseeable, terrible circumstances, I've moved back in with my Mom. (I had lived by myself for 3 years.) My mom and I have ALWAYS had a wonderful relationship; I've never been a problem child - I go to school full time and work as well. My mom's a great person too, it's not anything to do with who we are as people - but we just get on each other's last nerve every day. We just pick at each other... and when we fight it's awful. We still have fun, we don't fight constantly - but why is it so easy? It has to be something psychological. I think on my end - I'm annoyed by the things she does that I get from her. Does that make sense? But it's more than that - and although I'm not a teen, it's that classic teen and mom relationship. Why is it so easy to clash with your parents? Especially same sex

I can't help but giggle because this, if it's an accurate description, mirrors how my mom and I are. It's because of one simple thing: love.

It sounds contradictory, I know, but if you really take a look at people and how they interact with each other, you realize that people who have an intense love for each other tend to get on each others nerves easily. This applies to couples and family alike. So, the good news is that it's perfectly normal and natural.

Of course, there is a big difference between simply not getting along and having irritation turn to abuse, and this.

Don't worry. :)

Because your so much alike. While you may think alike on some things it's the some things your really quarreling over to separate yourself as an individual. Your Mom does it thinking she is trying to teach you but really wants you just like her. Keep your individuality as much as you can, but remember, life is too short to fight all the time.

You have a tendency to clash with your mom because the two of you are so much alike. You said it yourself when you said that it annoys you the things she does that you get from her.
