The reason that liquor stores and bars are closed on Sunday is to get more people in church. It has been this way since (especial in the South) befor Proibition. The common thought was that if they had no where else to go, sinners, and all drinkers must be sinners, would plop their kisters in the pues on Sunday. But as you observed it just leads to people stocking up on Saturdays. This is the same reason that there are "dry" counties and "Wet" counties and the reason you can't drink in Lynchburg, TN. (home of Jack Daniels)
In Arizona, you can't buy alcohol until 10 am on Sundays.

Why Sundays? How do you enjoy football on Sundays when all the liquor stores are closed? The Blue Laws are pure idiocy! I live in Florida and they sell on Sundays now after 11:00am. It used to be after 1pm but they changed that a few years back. I still don' t understand why they cut off at midnight. Just plain stupidity! Try it with milk. You can't buy milk on Sunday. You can't buy milk between midnight and 7am throughout the weekdays. Seems really stupid to me why there are items on store shelves that can only be bought during certain times of the day.

I've never really understood the reasoning for these laws. Some states do not allow alcohol sales, but restaurants can still serve it. It's kind of random. It there are religious reasons behind it, they need to be rethought to accommodate everyone.

Besides, not everyone is on the same schedule as everybody else. That might be a working day for someone, and maybe they just want to buy a beer and relax after work.

I disagree with anything been banned on Sundays! What was the real reason for anything been closed on Sundays? I think it dates back to when we as a nation let religion govern our states more than they should. We now live in a country which is diversified and these old laws need to change. Of course ultimately, it would be nice if the decision was left up to tax paying citizens, but then again dry counties generally attract people who either want to live there and are quite provincial themselves, or they got relocated and they are stuck or they chose to live there because the cost of living and value is much greater than in other areas. However, in essence if the local governments and the state opened these counties up to alcohol, they could draw a nice sum in sales tax..hmmm more money for the city and more money for the state and more money for the business.....ummm..yes other than religion I don't get it either!!! :o)

What? No communion anymore?

Banning Alcohol on Sunday, and other BLUE LAWS were aimed at the Jewish merchants...a subtle form of discrimination. Think about it, Why not ban alcohol on SATURDAYS also?

No. Banning sales of alcohol on Sunday (blue laws) are IMHO, ridiculous. America is supposed to have a separation of church and state, and this is a direct opposition of that philosophy.

In Ohio, we can buy after, if memory serves, 1pm on Sunday.

I don't drink, but I think this is moronic. The state is regulating alcohol sales for an unacceptable reason: Religion, specifically Christianity.

If Christians want to follow a belief that not drinking is a good thing, they can do it without the state forcing them not to buy it.

Um, can't they?

We have that same law where we live. It is against our constitional rights as citizens. Besides I know several people that go to church and drink. Drinking is not a crime, the bible states thou shall not be a drunkered. I like a glass of wine or beer with my meals on any given day.

its definitely not. there is no reason to ban it on Sundays. look, in some countries that alcoholic drinks is not allowed, still you can buy it illegally. much more in countries where alcoholic drink is a legal stuff.
