A University is a collection of colleges.
Like, I'm going to the University of Central Oklahoma, but I'm in the college of Liberal Arts.
College is like a subset of university.
I hope I made that clear!

A university usually contains colleges within them. For instance, the University of Dayton includes the College of Business, the College of Arts and Sciences, etc. Sometimes you need to get accepted into the university and then the different college that your major is a part of. Usually, universities are larger and offer more fields to study.

University has more faculties of studies which facilitates research and lab projects and perhaps more student enrollment.
College is a much smaller place for education compared to the University and hence provides a much smaller scope of field for specific studies.
Because of this factor, some people feel that a university degree is more prestigious than a college diploma.

Universities are full fledged educational institutions of higher learning, offering degrees up to PH. D s in a variety of subjects.
On the other hand, colleges usually offer 2 year and 4 degree courses in a limited number of subjects. They seldom train students for MD or PHD.

The difference between a college and a university is that a college just offers a collection of degrees in one specific area, while a university is a collection of colleges. When you go to a university you are going to be graduating from one of their colleges, such as the business college.

A university offers graduate level degrees- masters and doctorates, as well as the bachelors.
A college has bachelors level as the highest. A community college is a two year school.
And apparently no one but me knows the right answer!!!! A university is not a ''collection of colleges". But what would I know i'm just a professor with a few of those degrees. LOL

A university is an institution of higher education and of research, which grants academic degrees. College in a separate sense is a division of a university, eg College of Business.

I believe "University" just denotes a higher learning institute. Universities provide a broader range of degree options as opposed to colleges (e.g. doctorate, masters, bachelors).
