Something that shows you really know her. Something targeted to her interests or her history.
Oh, one thing I gave my mom that blew her away was a list called "I remember" and I wrote down all the things I could remember her doing for me when I was little and not so little.
"I remember you staying up all night making barbie doll clothes that time I had the flu." and "I remember those great chocolate oatmeal cookies you made." "I remember you coming to the basketball game and rolling that coin across the floor so you could eavesdrop on why chris and sarah were fighting..."etc etc etc
She really loved the list.

I would have to say as a mother one of my most proudest things are what you accomplish or plan to accomplish in the future. You said that your in college, but with not know how long you have been there or what has been done so I am not sure that this will work for you but feel free to use your own thoughts to add to it.
Take some of your pictures awards from your younger years, and such from school. Put them together in a book, and write her something, taking the time with you then to help you showed. Then add more pictures of you geting older, write out what you whan to do with your life and why, then to the current more photos and awards or such memories that fit. Write to her what you are now doing for that goal, with her always there by your side for support.
I think that would be a great present!! Just knowing that you want to be something more in life than just being there.
Dont forget the flowers, and dinner!

One of the best presents I got was a beautiful frame with a bunch of pictures of my girls growing up (cut to different shapes and mounted like a collage with a great Mom poem in the middle)...it brought back many memories of great happy times....it also made me cry because they really had to put some personal effort and thought into it. Money is never an issue with Moms...it's all about the thoughtful personal touch!

Depends on how old she is and if its from her generation. You should get her a Jazz CD. Maybe she likes Jazz? Soft Jazz? Or get her a silk therpery bath and body gift basket. You can buy the whole thing at Bath and Body workshop in the malls or stores. It has a great smelling lavendar soap, sllky lotion, a soft facecloth, perfume, body cream, and much more! I think she would like that, I know my mom would. She got one last year for Christmas and she loves it!
You could also buy her a card with flowers and a book by Daniel Gilberts. I know old folks like him :)

if you have a great relationship with your mother, i would suggest taking her somewhere nice. maybe a weekend getaway so that you two can enjoy eachothers company and talk about your great experiences together. reminesce a little and let her know that she is the best mom ever.
if that is too much, surprise her by spending the day with her at one of her favorite places or take her to the theatre. make her feel special on her special day and let her know that she will always be appreciated.
i find spending time with my son to be special. especially when this world is so fast paced. we have a tendency to lose touch with our loved ones.

Maybe a mother's ring with your birthstone, hers, and your dads too. Just need to know what is her ring finger size.
If she is into some candles, get her some scented candles.
Or a huge bouquet of roses or a mixture of flowers! (smile)
Don't forget the card to go along with your present!

You know, the only presents I know my mom and dad still have from us kids are the poems we wrote for them. I find them every once in a while when I'm visiting and looking for something.
And from them I have the letters where they told me something special about myself or our relationship. The letter from my dad that tells me how proud he is still makes me cry.

My daughter is in college as well and this past Christmas she got me the best gift. She got me a copy of a movie that I have not seen in years that I love. She had to order it and wait for it. She took the time to think of something that would be special to me and to her. She used to watch it with me so It meant alot.

One year I got a Mother's ring with all my children's birthstones.Very nice. One of them got me a photo album with my name engraved on it. She bought it at "Things Remembered" in the mall.A gift certificate to a day spa for a manicure/pedicure is always nice. What she probably would love the most is you taking her out to dinner and spending time alone with her. No girlfriends, spouses, just you and her. Nothing beats Quality Time Together.Good Luck.

My favorite gifts from my children are not necessarily things that you can buy from a store. Here are some of my favorites presents............
1. photograph of all of my children in a framed picture
2. spending the day with me going to the movies, out to dinner or lunch.
3. anything that they personally made for me.
4. telling me how much they loved me and appreciated me in a card or in person.
5. I always like anything they buy for me too. It's the thought that really counts.
