How different is it from Win XP? If it's a completely new look and has much more functions, is it worth the price, or should I wait for an updated version of Vista to come out?

ntignce: I don't have the technical knowledge on computer cos I'm only an end user, so I think my computer is a Pentium-3. Maybe it's best I wait for the bugs to be weeded out, and in the meantime find out whether or not my system requierements are sufficient to run the new version.

As was mentioned, you can wait for the price to go down (which it may only do slightly after some time). Some people like to wait for a Service Pack as well, since general release to the public may uncover more issues (due to the vast diversity of installed software in the general public) compared to those discovered during the various beta and release candidate cycles.

Also, unless you have a very recent computer, you may find that you have an older video card or other hardware that doesn't support some of the eye candy. You'll probably also want some time to investigate the various versions to see what features they support before spending that hard-earned money only to find out that you only needed the "Home Premium" version as opposed to the "Business Premium".

Also, you may decide that you might be upgrading your computer in the near future. Vista will probably stimulate the integration of much better hardware and probably be acquired at a much reasonably lower price with a new PC instead of directly purchased as a full or upgraded product. Some PC manufacturers also now ship with a free upgrade to Vista depending upon your computer, so that may also be a consideration.

My personal opinion, if it costs over $100, it's probably worth at least a day or two to sleep on it, do a bit of research, then decide.

Depends on whether or not you need it. Personally, I'm happy with XP and will not change until forced to. I will include information which appeared in our local paper this week.

Information on Windows Vista

Microsoft Extends XP Service (Buffalo News, 1/29/07)
REDMOND, Wash. (AP) - Qn the eve of the consumer launch of its new Windows Vista- operating system Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2007) Microsoft Corp. is extending the period in which it will offer support for the previous version, Windows XP.

Consumers who own Windows XP machines already were entitled to get customer service on the software up until April 2009. That date reflects Microsoft’s policy of curtailing its support for an edition of Windows two years after a new version hits the market.

Microsoft recently said consumers who still have Windows XP running April 2009 will be entitled to five more years of “extended support.” In the extended plan, consumers will still get security fixes, but instead of free service from the Microsoft help desk, they will have to pay for most assistance.

Microsoft said the move was meant to bring the support policies for consumers in line with what businesses already have.

Vista has been available for big businesses since Nov. 30, 2006, but hits the consumer PCs market as of Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007

Dear Freind,

Every software become new day by day. If you wait to get the newest version you won't get a software ever. So let it be this way. If you want to check the appearences and colour schemes in latest version of Vista go to vastdown.com. There is the "VISTA TRANSFORMATION PACK". Download it and install it. It will show you how newest vista really looks like. If you like it uninstall that software and buy real vista. I think this is will solve your problem. Thank you .

it is different from win xp but a lot of features have just been remade and renamed. i think vista will have many of the problems xp had when it went mainstream, as for myself i am waiting, xp is just now working for me so i'll stick with it for a bit longer.
