wow I was in 3rd grade
we watched allot of Ed Sullivan
100.00 a week for a wage was considered pretty good.
chewing gum and talking in class were real serious problems in high schools ... and gettin a little out of control
Your talking no transistor radios... and only black and white TV... no computers in houses... the IBM 360 was probably less powerful than the average PC in peoples houses today... slide rules... no calculators
people got green stamps when they bought groceries and pasted them in little books and got cool stuff when they had enough books
Garfield Goose and Friends, Bozo the Clown and Diver Dan rocked the TV in Chicagoland
I think Kennedy was shot around that year
in our school everyone cried and the girl next to me knelt down next to her desk and prayed
and no whining by the ACLU about it
Vietnam was not a big war yet, but would be in a few years...before the Johnson years ...
Johnson was about to take over to propose his 'great society' (as some would say) and allot of failed 60s programs as others would say
the movie Mary Poppins maybe came out around then... Dick Van Dike and I Love Lucy were popular... Superman was leaping tall buildings with a single bound... The Wonderful World of Disney was really popular and Disney did not turn Politically Correct yet and made only family friendly movies The Flintstones and Jetsons rules the past and future.... we knew by the 21st century we would be driving flying cars for sure.
We were convinced evolution was true and creation science was not as popular as today
The book THE GENESIS FLOOD was renewing interest in the Bible as most people bought evolution hook line and sinker
David and Goliath and the SIlver Feather were popular religious shows. the TV show "Romper Room" has a prayer for every snack on TV "God is great God is Good Thank you for our food, Amen" prayer was being taken out of schools
Madeliene Murray Ohare brought suit over her son being in a school where they prayed Her son grew up to be a popular evangelist and wrote a book called "My Life Without God"
austronauts were making news around then going around the world once.... then three times... to beat sputnik and start a race to the moon that would last a decade
commercials had lots of jingles and songs...
you can trust your car to the man who wore the star.... double your pleasure double your fun get two mints instead of just one...
Annet Funeccello was a kid on the Micky Mouse Club and every day had a song... today is wednesday you know what that means... and ended with ... MIC (see you real soon) KEY (Y because we like you) M O U S E

The year 1963 was intense for me. I just returned from my first trip to Korea, joined a new outfit, and then attended the Third Army NCO Academy at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
I was on the drill pad when the news came that J.F.K. had been assassinated. The cadre and students took off the rest of the day. Life had changed for many on that 22nd day of November.

It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times. I was in high school when Kennedy was killed. I was sitting at home sick and watched the whole thing on T.V. It was a time when we thought Cuba was going to bomb us. Kennedy had stood firm and kept them from getting missiles. Jackie was a beautiful lady and I think every male had a crush on her. The cars of that day were 57 and 55 chevs. Ford had a few tough cars also. Stock car racing was getting to be a big thing.

not bad at all....
a much easier life than today.
drugs were not rampant, although they were starting to appear everywhere.
people knew what words like the following meant:
responsibility
tact
decorum
fairness
sharing
truth
honor
lawful
respect
civility
unselfishness
God
service
proper
and many more like that.
most people knew how to spell (amazing, eh?)
most people went to church and respected God for what He is.
people were not as greedy.
people were not as rude.
people were friendlier.
people did not think they were "bigshots".....
better than everyone else.....
