What should I do? I put off everything I have to do until late, and then I still waste time at night doing useless tasks intead of getting into bed, like cleaning out the cabinet. I don't get to bed until around two. I am exhausted and do not know what to do. The trouble is just deciding to stop what I am doing and get in bed, once im in bed, I am fine. Please help

Maybe what you should do is just realize what you are doing. Stop and go to bed. Here's what you should also do. Make a list of what you need to do when you get up. For example, cleaning out the cabinets. Do this every night before bed. It will help you stop putting things off until late and you know exactly what to do. Plus, you will be off to a great day and realize that you can go to bed on time and wake up relaxed and ready to do whatever you need to do.

Establish a bedtime routine. I shower, brush my teeth, put on my lotions and face cream and read a bit of the bible. I turn off the lights and get into my sleep position. Due to habit (from being a night worker for a long time) I sleep with the TV on. To me it blocks out the daytime noise distracting to a night worker. Since I now work days, it's the same routine. Regardless if I am on a day or night schedule, I still stick to a bedtime routine. It took a while but now I falll asleep easily.

It sounds as if you've decided that you haven't been productive enough, that you've wasted the day, and a bit more of your life. Who can sleep under that sort of pressure? So you try to make a bit of progress, and try to make yourself exhausted.

There are a few things you can do, and they might be helpful. One is to make a list of the stuff you hope to accomplish, or at least be on your way to accomplishing, each day. It sounds silly, but it often works. Any list, written anywhere, will help, and you'll feel better if you can cross at least something off of it. Note: do not list tasks like "Improve self" on your list. "Clean off top of refrigerator" is more like it.

The other thing is to recognize that simply surviving a day without having gotten into trouble is a perfectly-acceptable way of living one's life. Some of us have a tendency to accomplish things in spurts, with long stretches of cat-like existence between them. This sort of behavior is hardly celebrated these days: we tend to demand steady, productive work habits, productive or otherwise.

If this persists, you may have a problem with clinical depression, and it's chosen to manifest itself in this way. If you're convinced that you're worthless, it's unlikely that you'll assign yourself a high score as you evaluate yourself at the end of each day. So some treatment may be in order.

But do not ignore that possibility that you're simply a night person, and given an appropriate schedule you could likely do a great deal--just not when anyone else is doing it. You may find, as I have, that the people who crow about the virtues of working by day and sleeping by night usually have issues with circadian rhythms themselves. See if you can arrange your life so that it's easier for you to set your own hours.

Sleeping pills aren't generally too effective in cases like this: you sleep, but then in the daytime you sleep more. Your experience may be different. Good luck.

Watch your caffine intake at night for about three hours before bed, watch the amount of water you drink as well before bed. Get into your most comfortalbe clothes and into your bed with clean sheets, put on some soft music and leave plently of time to sleep in if possible. Then while thinking good pleasant thought, go to sleep.

It's called procrastination. Prioritize with a list to get things done more efficiently. Also, are you struggling with depression or unresolved conflict? It could be. Do you have trouble getting up in the morning? Try to get up at the same time every day at a good hour and don't oversleep. Make the most of your day :) For some reason, night owls like myself waste more time than day people.

Maybe you need to learn to sleep while standing up like the astronaughts do. There are many other places you can go to sleep, besides a bed. Perhaps it is your prehistory ancestral genetics telling your body that youare in an outdoor jungle and you might want to try sleeping in a tree or on the ground outside sometime. Then when you realise how good a bed is you'll want to get into one.

You have to tell yourself that "at 11:00 I'm going to stop what I'm doing and go to bed". Srt an alarm if you have to.
