As a Marine, my answer is going to be biased for the first part of your question... the Marine Corps is the most prestigious. We are the most disciplined, have the best uniforms, honor our traditions more than the other branches, and we are America's first called in time of conflict. When presidents have demanded military updates, the first words they always heard were "the Marines have landed and the situation is well in hand."

As far as who is the most important branch... no branch is the most important. Each branch has a unique mission that complements the other branches. The Marines go in first and secure the objective, the Navy uses their ships and naval gunfire to transport the Marines and soften up the target before the Marines go in. The Air Force provides air superiority and bombing. The Army is the occupying force. Last, but not least, the US Coast Guard keeps the homefront secure. I hope this helps... good luck.

I am sorry to say, but each branch of the military is important in their own way. and no branch is the most prestigious. We go by are own standards designated to us by our service.

Air Force - Air (obviously), Space and cyberspace.
Army- Ground
Marines- Land and sea
Navy- Sea and air
Coast Guard- Sea

What is the most prestigious branch of the military?

Well I'm just going to make an opinion but i would say that the Marine Corps would be the most prestigious it takes more work than others and the name gives you a feeling of power.

What is the most important branch of the military?
No branch is more important but you have to think of them as one large entity.

They are ALL important..in their own way sweetie, if you top one over there other-that is your opinion, they each have certains functions that they are tactful at that their sister brances aren't at, that what makes them All unique-you want water? go Navy or Marine or Coast Guard. You wanna fly? Go Navy; Air Force-if you want to fly a fighter that is; You want land? Go Army or Marines-so you see they ALL have something useful and specific they are good at, while their sister branches are good at others things one branch isn't tactful in or known for, or used for they -each have their own special skills :)

Well in opinions of many people there is all types of answers, well mine is the ARMY, because they have been around since the revolutionary war, and since we are all within this war on terror as they say the army is the major percentage of populated troops with in both countries. To answer the which branch is More important, well every branch is important because of the mission they represent, the army is the troops who are on the ground and also the marines, but the navy patrols the waters of the world, the air force patrols the skies, and the coast guard patrols the our country's boarders along with helping out and saving live with in the emergency of the country. There are many more sub branches of the military like the national guard, reserves, air guard, navy reserves, etc.

To answer the first question: The Marine Corps.

Think about the commercials you see for various branches of the military. Army and Navy ads try to draw interest by saying what they can do for YOU, education, adventure -- look what YOU can get out of it! But the Marine Corps ads are completely differently, they're saying maybe, just maybe, you MIGHT have what it takes to join our elite group - the FEW, the PROUD, the MARINES.

Reading a couple of posts above, I just have to add that the Marines do have their own planes (limited) and helicopters - the President's helicopter is Marine One.
