Traveling to West Maui by myself is it safe?

Just be sure to stay by tourist cities and such. I wouldn't be worried about the wildlife, however I suggest staying away from some of the natives because not all of them appreciate foreigners. My cousin went to college in Hawaii and found that natives are quite pissed off at foreigners for turning their home into a tourist city.
