dude I got braces last wek nothing to worry about because ill teel ya what they do it take bout 30-45 m I got my lowers first!

Bring your mom/dad in the room if you want

Step1: The dental hygenist or orthodontist abrases your teeth with a gritty polish texture is nasty but no pain. tasteless

Step2: They make final arangements, ask questions if your worried and put this peice of plastic in your mouth that opens your lips and shows your teeth but covers your tounge at the same time "wear chapstick" please!!

step3:then the put glue on the back of each bracket and fix it too your tooth move it a little and then put this light on it looks like a mini hairdryer and shows a blue light don;t look at the blue light it ammits

Step 4: they add all the brackets to each tooth then onces there all fixed to the teeth the size you with the wire and trim it if its too long or short then ask what color elastics you want you can pick any colors i got mine pink and baby blue i would have got gray the first time!!! or clear

done they should give you wax or something to stop the braces rubbing into your mouth ask if they dont give ya any wax

any way you don" go back till 3 weeks to change the color again

its painless!

for the first few days east stuff like mushy food icecream mashed soup! and anything you cut into little tiny pecies it goes away after 3 days

Good luck and take advil if you need it

It's good that your asking, because not knowing is part of what causes the pain. I'm going to send you the same info that I just sent to someone who just got theirs today and hopefully it will help you too. Also check out the site for picking your colors for the elastics. It's the fun part of wearing braces! Hope I'm able to help you some and Congrats on the braces!

We always advise ortho patients to take Advil or Motrin for the pain base the dose on your age and weight. It sounds like you just got yours. Try to eat soft cold things like ice cream, smoothies, yogurt, Popsicles, and more ice cream. The colder things tend to numb and help ease the pain, the medication helps reduce the inflammation that the braces are causing. This is all new stuff in your mouth and it takes a little time for your mouth to adjust. Try to keep some vaseline on your lips as well, they tend to dry and crack easily with ortho. Don't do any chewing for a few days, then slowly add those foods back into your diet. Take care and cut your food into bite size pieces or smaller. A few days of smoothies and ice cream won't hurt you, and it really does help. Try not to push your lips against your teeth, this will cause lip ulcers that are really painful. Use the wax if you feel any wires sticking your cheek or lip tissue. After your mouth gets used to all the hardware you won't need the wax and your tissue will get adjusted it just takes time. I tell all the ortho patients that Advil or Motrin will become a necessity during their time with braces, so stock up and just take it easy these first few days, it does get better. When you have your adjustments every month just be prepared with the Motrin or Advil and have the Popsicles handy. Keep in mind, this will all be over soon and you'll have a fantastic smile to show from it! I hope I was of some help to you, and good luck!

PS just saw this site that someone found, you might want to check out for your colors for your next visit. http://www.pbhs.com/ortho/braces/braces....

The only time I really had any pain was when they were tightening the wires during and then after it would hurt some like when you have your pony tail up too high and tight then you take it down... hard to explain, lol. Have some soups and stuff handy for the first day or so til you can handle eating solid foods when the orthodontist tells you that you can. It takes a little getting use to, but after you have had them for a while you forget about them completely. Try to avoid too much candy while you have braces as well.

It doesn't hurt. Really. Your teeth will be sore for a couple of days, but it's not bad.

As other people stated - take Advil or something about half an hour before going to your appointment. It will help with the initial soreness.

Afterwards - use your dental wax as much as you need to! Don't skimp on it. Your mouth with get tougher and soon you will hardly ever need the wax. Don't be afraid to use it!

Rinsing with warm salt water a few times a day for the first few weeks will really help the insides of your cheeks.

Use tons of Chapstick - you'll find your lips will be drier.

Buy the Blue Agent disclosing rinse they make for little kids. It will help make sure you are brushing well.

Floss every day - brush every time you eat something. Use an anti plaque rinse like Act daily.

Get your teeth cleaned every three months.

Good luck! :)

Braces do not hurt at all at first don't worry. If anything it hurts when they tighten them, which you probably won't get untill atleast a month of having them on. They might be a little sore. Take an asprin before you go, just incase. Eat ice cream after! It really does help. Really though just don't worry about it, if you have had an expander and could deal with that, well braces feel 10 times better.

Hope this helps =]]]

I know how you feel, I get mine the day after you do! Eek!

From what I've heard you'll need to eat before-hand. Also, bring chapstick (your lips get chapped from being stretched) and some ibuprofen or other pain reliever to take after the appointment. This procedure isn't as bad as people say. You get bands fitted in your molars (where the spacers went), they clean your teeth, glue brackets on them, and fit and archwire into the brackets. After, they will insert rubber bands on the brackets. You can choose colors, as you probably know, so visit this website to try out combinations:

Your teeth will be sore for a few days or even a couple of weeks, so stock up on soft foods. Just think of how beautiful your smile will be in the future!

Good luck!

The Pain isn't the kind of pain that makes you upset. It doesn't hurt to put them on, it is just kind of sore aftewards.
Remember to have fun choosing colors. I tried to choose a neutral and toned down color, but I misjudged and got stuck with this outrageous bright blue/turqoise for a month.

And if they tell you to wear rubber bands, dont cheat, just wear them. It will make the braces experience so much shorter if you do what the orthodontist tells you. (same goes when you get the retainer after the braces)

Ok, take medicine like 30 minutes before you go, like ibeprofin, it will dull the pain later on, and just remember it doesn't hurt when they put them on so don't be nervous about that, they just ache a little after, so take medicine, and don't let the sounds scare you, there are going to be alot of noises (scary noises) in your mouth, but the noise does not affect the pain in any way, so don't be nervous, you will do fine!Hope I helped!

Use the wax they give you---it helps out a lot in the first days (especially when you sleep). Also, find foods that you can easily eat that don't require much chewing. Even the softest food will hurt like hell when you first get braces.

Floss, floss, floss!!!
